I know of two Samuel's. Father and Son! Vandy
Seeking information on John Park, known as "Jack" to some. b. April 25, 1888 near Annalong, Ireland. d. April 6, 1970, Ocean Springs, MS USA Mother's name was Gertrude. His family lived on a dairy farm. The only thing I know about how he got to the U.S. is a story of when he was 9 years old, he took the milk to the market one day, sold it and parked the cart, and got on a boat bound for NY. He had a brother (name unknown) who lived in New York, whom he visited sometime in the 1940's. He was married twice, children from his first marriage were named Louis (Lewis?), Florence, and Dorothy. Children from his second marriage to Essie Jane Coleman were named Willie, James, Ione, Marilyn, and Donald. He retired after working in the U.S. Merchant Marine I apologize for crossposting to all the "Park" lists, but I really don't know for sure how his last name was originally spelled. If any of this sounds familiar, I'd love to hear from you. Philip Davis b11450c@yahoo.com
Great. Looks like we're looking at the same Parks family. From another source, apparently the Parks and Bledsoe's intermarried quite a bit so I hope it doesn't end up looking like a maze. I'm planning to go to Orange County Mem. Day so if I find anything more, I'll let you know. Hi MaryAlice I know what you mean. My Parks family has both Samuel and Thomas and we live in Australia. These old families seem to have the same name running through families . hi,,,I have a Samuel Parks in my family,,,who are the parents of your Samuel? Wayne Park
Took a look at your info on Rootsweb. I have to print out Alexander so I can digest it better. Great work. I noticed you mentioned a Meredith. My notes show "Margaret X Meredith" under the children of (possibly) Thomas Parks. Do you have any idea what that connection would be? Also, if a Samuel Parks who married Mary Overton and died in 1851 (my notes), could it be possible that Alexander who died in 1848 (your info) could have been brothers, perhaps coming to Orange County from Kentucky? I sure wish I knew which county in Kentucky they came from. Roy, Many thanks for the information that you sent me. I got it today. I have a question for you. This is about Linchfield Parks, son of Benjamin Parks. No one seems to know his wife's maiden name. They say her first name is Eleoner. Could her maiden name be Lawson? Their son Benjamin's middle name is Lawson. I wonder if it could her maiden name? They had the habit of using the family names in naming the children. What do you think about this? Would make alot of people happy. Let me hear from you. Chris
M. Parks Please let me recommend that you become a member of The Parke Society. You can contact their Web site at www.Parke.org. It is a single-name group that helps research genealogy on the Park/Parke/Parkes/Parks families. I know that you will find information on Hugh Parks. A lot of libraries have past newsletters put out by the Parke Society. Ours has two hard-bound books made up of a collection of newsletters. They try to help put you in touch with members that are connected with your particular lineage. Hope you find what you are looking for. Sandy
To Roy Roubideau - so very pleased that you get your kicks by helping all of us!!! Many of us are searching for info about Hugh Parks - born in abt. 1780 in York (?) , PA. He married Mary Nichol in 1805, Belmont Co., OH. Need information about his parents and/or names of siblings. Thanks again, M. Roy or anyone who may have info: I am trying to find out who the parents of JESSE PARKS were. He was born 1920 and died 1932. He is buried in the Dunn Cemetery in Breathitt County Kentucky. He is buried near some of my Parks relatives but don't know who he belongs to. I am the grandaughter of Cleveland Parks. His brothers Marion, Alford and Andrew are all buried there. I haven't found him listed on the census with anyone so far. Alford and Marion both had kids in 1920 and its not him listed. Just wondered if you or anyone else had heard of him or knew who he belonged to. Thanks Shelly Platz --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - your guide to health and wellness
Maybe the rest of you are aware that F. S. Parks' book on the Parke family was online. But, if not, this is a wonderful resource. http://www.accessgenealogy.com/surnames/parks/index.htm It was probably published around 1900-1915 and deals with the Park/e/s descended from Richard Parke of Cambridge and William Parke of Groton. Roy, Do you have any information on Robert Henry Parks, born about 1872 in Arkansas? He married Rose Myrtle Gore of Lynnville, Warrick, Indiana on 24 Nov 1909 (don't know where). The family lived in Okmulgee, Oklahoma in 1912, when their only child, Norvell Deloss Parks, was born. Robert had a blacksmith shop in Okmulgee, but later moved to Checotah, Oklahoma, where he evidently took up farming. They moved in 1920 to Howell County, Missouri where they had a farm between Peace Valley and White Church. By 1928 they had moved to North Hollywood, California, where they lived with Rose's parents for several years. Rose died in 1928. After Norvell was on his own, Robert may have gone to Texas. There were possibly relatives in Weatherford, Parker, Texas. Robert died sometime in the 1950s in Pocatello, Idaho, having lived with son Norvell and his wife in his later years. The 1920 census listing in Missouri says Robert's father was born in Tennessee and his mother in Arkansas. Any help much appreciated. Judy Damewood
