Janie, You have probably seen this web page. But take a look again. I have been doing research on the CLIFT and PARK/S family for about three years but have not been able to connect my PARK/CLIFT great grandparents to any of the CLIFTS or PARKS shown in this lady's very complete research. <A HREF="http://pages.sbcglobal.net/gwrobertson/index.htm">index</A> Go to the CLIFT Genealogy, then to CLIFT Family History, then CLIFT Family File then to Henry CLIFT, b. 1775, Md, then do a search for PARKS, and also Malinda. You will find a William PARKS in Knox County, TN, and also a William or W. PARKS, later in Ellis County, Tx, married to CLIFT. However, the William CLIFTS' middle initial does not match yours. I have a lot of information on my great great grandfather, James CLIFT, but cannot tie him to this CLIFT family. They all lived in the Marshall County/Lincoln County, Tn, area in the very early 1800s, and so did Henry CLIFT and his descendants. I do feel that there is a definite connection but just now what. I have been collecting various bits and pieces of information about both of these surnames and cannot seem to make a break through. I also have corresponded with others who are working on these same families, and we are all stuck at the same place. My great grandfather was John Moore PARK, b.early in 1800s to Moses PARK, and my great grandmother was Margaret CLIFT. Her father was James CLIFT, b. abt. 1805, m. to Mary (Polly) BRENTS. I believe the CLIFTS migrated into Tennessee in the early years of 1800 from NC, and maybe through Ky. There are too many similar surnames among these people for there not to be a connection. But what? I would love to hear from anyone who could give any help on these people. There are several other researchers out there who have been researching this same family and so far we are all stalled. Would be happy to hear from anyone with these family names. Joyce PARK Riggs

I need help. Who has a Index or book which would have the names of Revolutionary War Veterans, who settled in NC after the War?? I am looking for: HUGH PARKS He could be born anywhere, but fought in the War, and was later either GIVEN a Land Grant in NC, or he simply settled in NC after the War. If anyone has Land Grants in NC after the War, or Rev. Vets in NC after the War, could you do a LOOK-UP for me, for Hugh Parks?? I shall surely and sincerely appreciate it. I am overseas, so I can't run into a library and check it out, untill 2004 when I get home to CA. Our family story says Mecklenburg Co.NC, but others think Nash Co. NC. Please assist me on this info. I am researching the PARKS family of North Carolina. My Parks family is said to have descended from a Capt. Hugh Parks, who was in the Revolutionary War, and recieved a Land Grant in the state of NC. Is there anyone working on this name?? My oldest ancestor confirmed is Moses Parks b. 1821 NC, and both his parents are born NC. Moses is found on the 1880 census in Fayette Co., TN. My line descends from his son John Edward Parks Sr ( a doctor) to John Edward Parks Jr. (also a doctor). John Jr. eventually went back to NC and settled near Robbinsville, Graham Co., NC and was a doctor there. His children are still living. I would appreciate hearing from other Parks and especially any info on HUGH. I will share with you all that I have so far. Lillian Kathleen Martin

Linda My response was in relation to Donna's posting "Does anyone have a copy of the will of John Thompson of Little Preston, Northamtonshire, England that was written on 6 Nov 1626 in London according to TAG Vol XIV No 3 Jan 1938?" and I said "She obviously is speaking about John Thompson whose will was dated 06 Nov 1626 and probated 11 Apr 1627 according to The Parke Society Newsletter, Vol 13, No 1, 1976. This John Thompson was the father of Dorothy Thompson who married Thomas Parke the son of immigrant Robert Parke, MA, 1630. Dorothy and Thomas are the ancestors of the Canadian, UE Parks line." John Thompson's wife was Alice Freeman whose ancestry is extensive. Does anyone have a copy of the will of John Thompson of Little Preston, Northamtonshire, England that was written on 6 Nov 1626 in London according to TAG Vol XIV No 3 Jan 1938?
Does this have a connection to the Parks family? I have a Parks that married a Thompson. Linda

Hello, all. It is against Rootswebs policy to use the mailing list to sell items, be it books or memberships or whatever. We have lost several list members in the last couple of days and one of those list members could have had the information you were looking for. So let's get back to using this mailing list as it was intended - the sharing of genealogy. Tammie
In a partial answer to: Is there a way I can find out if the Parke society has information about my ancestors? If so, I would definitely join. However, I only have information 4 generations back and may need to go farther back to find a connection... I am a g-grandson of Willard L Parks (1874-1950) who was a son of Joseph M Parks (1834-1917) Joseph Parks was born in Chittenden County VT and died in MN -brad (a novice) **************************** With limited access to the files of the Parke Society, I was able to check for the Willard L and Joseph M, above. They are not currently in the file. This is *not* normally a service provided by the Society, but I just happened to have a free moment. However, as stated previously in this forum, the Society always welcomes researchers of the surname(s) Park/e/s. And, clearly, names of earlier generations could yield a 'hit'. To refresh, here is a repeat of a prior post. Hope it helps not only Brad, but others. THE PARKE SOCIETY, INC, is a one name (or surname) society working on the PARK surname for immigrants who came into North America from the British Isles (and perhaps possessions) from the 17th Century to date. Our goal is to track down all PARK/E/S surnamed individuals and to get them identified with the correct immigrant ancestor and to trace, in so far as it is possible their progeny. No small task this, but we have been at it for over 30 years, and currently have identified about 100 immigrants, and are attempting to sort out another 200 or so "fragment" PARK/E/S lines whose predecessors so far have escaped us. The Society is made up of over 600 active members throughout the United States and Canada (and a couple of foreign lands to boot) who work on their individual lines, passing along information that is cataloged and indexed by the Society's Historian for use by other members. Between the Historian and the various Lineage Leaders (individuals who look after particular ancestral lines, coordinating research and data) we hope to clear up erroneous information which can be found not only in published books but also on the World Wide Web. At this time The Society has over 40 three ring binders of family group sheets, which are indexed in a GIVENAME INDEX for reference purposes. Currently this index is not available on line. [But is a *great* source for 'solving' Park/e/s 'mysteries' for members -gcr] Any interested individual can become part of The Society, all that is required is an interest in tracing the PARK/E/S family name. Annual Dues are currently $25 with an application processing fee of $15. Life memberships are available for $250. As a part of you membership, members receive a thrice annual Parke Society NewsLetter that covers the art and science of genealogy in general and in particular in relation to the PARK/E/S surname. It is thru this organ that we keep members aware of new finds and research. Members also receive a Closed Circuit To Members (CCTM) Flyer which covers news and information particular to membership in The Society. Further information concerning The Parke Society is available on line at: http://www.parke.org http://ourworld.Compuserve.Com/homepages/Tad_Parks/ Gordon Ralls PS #500 Online monitor The Parke Society PS As a final item, could we all 'clean up' our 'replies' to remove the unrelated repetition of prior issues?
Dear Brad, I agree with others...the Parke Society might just have what you are looking for I do think your ancestor is of the Richard Parke line. If so, there are several members in the Society of this line. Copies of the newsletters are in many large libraries, or go to: <http://www.parke.org> Parke Society member Cecilia
Brad, at the risk of making other societies unhappy. I still feel that the Park Society is the best run society of it's kind out there. You are probably from Richard's line, however, the society has been very generous and has donated copies of the Quarterly to many genealogical libraries. You can find one and look at back issues of this magazine. That should give you a good idea. If you don't find you family, look at it this way, if you join you might find some more cousins because they will see your line. Good luck another Park (Arthur Park) Emalu Hart At 11:34 AM 12/18/02 -0600, you wrote: >Is there a way I can find out if the Parke society has information about >my ancestors? Brad Since the Parke Society is open to anyone with Parke/Park/Parks roots in the British Isles the odds are very great that some members are tracing your line. There are many lines being traced and you would need to go a bit further back before you could be sure.
