Cook, newly-elected President of the Park/e/s Society, at the annual meeting of the Society in Mystic, Connecticut on Aug. 11, 1973, gave the "address of the day" in which he reported that records compiled by various genealogists and historians show that the distinguished ancestors of Dorothy Tompson, through her mother Alice Freeman, include 69 Kings and Emperors. This is not surprising when you consider the custom of restricting royal marriages to the aristocracy and the intermingling of royal lines. On Mr. Cook's nine-foot chart was shown the line of descent from Cedric, King of the West Saxons already mentioned on page 1 of this document. Additional lines of descent trace the forebears back through the English Kings Henry II (1132-89) and Henry I (1070-1135) to William the Conqueror (1027-87). Among William the Conqueror's ancestors was Charlemagne (742-814), sometimes rated as The Greatest King of The Middle Ages. The Scottish Kings among Dorothy Tompson's forebears were Malcolm III (1031-93), Malcolm II and Duncan I who died in 1040. Another line of her ancestry runs through Llewellyn the Great of Wales (1173-1240) back to Brian Boru (941-1014) King of Ireland. Can someone help me with this? in Alice Freeman Thompson Parke lineage they say: In The Genealogist 4 (1983): 184, note #25, Neil D. Thompson calls to our attention an article by Geoffrey W.S. Barrow in The Scottish Genealogist 25 (1978): 98, which disclaims any connection between Maldred, Lord of Carlisle and Allerdale, to the royal house of Scotland. In addition, the Capetian line via, among other families, Wake and Duston, first posited by George Andrews Moriarty, Jr., and dependent on a stained-glass window inscription, is no longer tenable. DEar Nichole, I am sorry to say I can't help you on your direct request. But I just want you and the rest of the list to know that I am researching the Parks family in NC as well. My earliest confirmed ancestor is Moses Parks who settled in Sommerville, TN. But he was born in 1821 NC, and his parents as well were born in NC, according to the 1880 census there. Our family "story" has been that we descend from a Revolutionary War soldier named Hugh Parks, who was granted land in NC after the war, and then he settled and had descendants. This is the line that I am working on presently. I have plenty of documentation for TN, but in NC I am still searching. So I can't yet say the EXACT location we started with in NC. Keep me in mind for any NC Parks families, after the Rev. War, and especially any HUGH or MOSES Parks. Hi, I am researching the Parks line in Burke County. I found some information on an ancestor of mine in the Burke County Heritage - NC Book published in 1981. My ancestors are John Parks (1795 - 1865) and Thomas Parks (1740 - 1819). In this book it states that John Parks kept a journal which he bought in July of 1812 in Morganton, NC. He wrote in the front cover - "John Parks his cyphering book Price 50." This book also notes that some research was done to find the journal and it was found in the possession of a Hubert Parks, but that was done back in 1981, so may or may not still be in his possession. I have not gotten any farther than that. I am very interested in locating this journal and will welcome any information from anyone researching the Parks line in Burke County, NC. Thank you! Nichole

Joyce, Thanks for all the work, but I don't see an eary fit. Apparently lots of Parks married Clifts, and Knox Co., TN seems to be hub of activity. That certainly gives me something to look at! Janie
Thanks so much! I have no proof, but I believe my Parks-Clift line is from TN. I have no idea what county. I know they had a daughter named Martha in 1822 who married James Hickey. Martha died in 1861/65 in Waldron, TN. This is the best lead I have had!

I am looking for information regarding John William Parks, born 1855, Missouri, possibly Clay Co. Died Billings, MT 1939. Also his father, William Parks born 1824, Ky . William Parks married Mary Rine Richardson, born 1824 Ky, married 1843 in MO. I would like to know what county in KY that William was born, so I can continue my search. Any help would be appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus
