Let's stir up some activity! I'm still looking for parents for Peter Glick PARKS and his brother Silas Leonard PARKS. There may have been other brothers, George and Loudon. Peter had 12 children. I have not found his oldest daughter, Janette B. who married a KERN/KERNS. Janette was born in 1826, Broome Co., New York. I have accounted for Jane, Lozetta, Lucinda, Oscar, Morris, Aurilla and Nathan, but not Jerome, Minerva M., James L., and Peter. Nathan Euryal PARKS was still alive in 1920, living in Chicago. He had sons George L., Loyd, Edson, Morris and Ernest, born between 1872 and 1883. Nathan was a Methodist minister and traveled around. The children were born in Illinois, Texas and Wisconsin. George was the father of Benson (1897) and Moses (1899), both born in Indiana. Wife was Elva (maiden name unknown) born in Ohio. George was a street car conductor in 1900 census, Cook Co., Illinois. Surely someone out there is related to my PARKS line!! Hugs from rainy Iowa, Sandra Tennyson
If "PARKS" been "quiet", this is a good time to get everyone's attention then! I am still trying to understand where the Parks name fits into my family. My gr-grandmother was Emily Parks Gee (b. 1831 Delaware Co. NY, d. 1909 King Co. WA--near Seattle), daughter of Benjamin Gee and Hulda Parks (although many records show "Hulda Hawley"). There is some question about the Parks or Hawley name, both names having very solid, primary evidence in support of each one being Hulda's surname. Even if the Hawley name turns out to be correct, the Parks name had to come from somewhere, especially since Hulda and Benjamin Gee named their first-born child with Parks as her middle name. I am aware of the various people named Parks in Delaware Co. NYat the time, but not found a connection to any of them so far. I am open to consider any clue that might help solve the mystery of where the Parks name came into this line. Thanks! Sherry Steele (Seattle)
It's been extremely quiet that's for sure!!:o) you're still here! > Hi, haven't received any messages about Parks' for a long time.....neither "D" or "L". Was I removed or has that line been quiet? Cheryl- Thomas Park was born between 1750/1760 as calculated from census records. By 1796 he was in Allegheny county. He had a wife, Mary, we know from land records. She dies before 1830, and was born about 1780, so this may be a second wife for Thomas. These folks have been my brick wall...I have no idea where they were prior to the late 1700's in Western PA. I don't have a definitive birth date for Robert or Samuel Parks. Robert's daughter, Mary, was born in 1775. This would give an estimated birth for Robert as late as 1755, although of course he could have been born much earlier. I appreciate any help. I suspect there is an Irish connection for this Park/Parks family. Children of James (b. 1799 died after 1860) are mentioned in the will of Polly Boyd as nieces and nephews, and she has an Irish connection. I Thanks! Is anyone out there researching PARKS in Beaver County Pennsylvania? I'm trying to unravel early 1800 Parks, including Thomas who died by 1840, and his possible son, James, born about 1798. Other Parks in this area at the turn of the century are Robert and his brother Samuel. Thanks, Lynn
Cheryl, I have a Mary Ann Parks that was born in CT abt 1817. She married a James C. Fenton in Adams Co., IL, 23 April 1840. Lived in Mt Zion, Macon Co, IL and died there in 1872. Do you have one like her in your database? Thanks, Helen
I looked in the Parks Record v3, the Parke Family of Connecticut which I own and also online at the Parke Family of Massachusetts and did not find any Mary Ann that matches [did not go through the Marys] Did check for Fenton and that is nil except for a marriage to a Fenton woman -- see the MA line -- only place where a Fenton is mentioned. Nothing indicating that FS Parke had anyone in those sections of Illinois. sorry Cheryl At 11:07 PM 3/10/03 -0500, you wrote: >Cheryl, > >I have a Mary Ann Parks that was born in CT abt 1817. My Park brick wall is Garrett David, who was born around 1802. We don't know where he was born, but he died in Georgia in 1870-something. His sons were named Thomas Morgan, Andrew Bascomb, William Alonzo. Elizabeth Park
My dead end Parks in Beaver Co., is David Parks, b. 1790, PA or IRE, d. April 28, 1834, Richland Co., Ohio, m. Elizabeth Lance, abt. 1807 in Beaver Co.. She was B. September 28, 1790, Beaver Co., PA, d. July 26, 1864, Richland Co., Ohio. 10 Children. It is said that David could be the son of Robert Parks of Beaver Co., PA Steve ----- Original Message ----- From: <paradmds@att.net> To: <PARKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 10, 2003 8:41 PM Subject: [PARKS] Beaver County/PA PARKS > Is anyone out there researching PARKS in Beaver County Pennsylvania? From the 1790 Census [working from a published book] Jas Parks, Allegheny (from Wash. Co.), PA 1 1 3 James Parks, Allegheny (from Wash. Co.) PA 2 2 3 Robert Parks, Allegheny (from Wash. Co.) PA 2 2 2 Sam'l Park, Allegheny (from Wash. Co.) PA 1 - - Samuel Park, Allegheny Co., (from Wash.) PA 1 - - Some of these are known but you will need to decipher the genealogies. I suspect that those not children of Samuel (below) may be relatives. Samuel Park was born in Ireland about 1730 and died in Washington Co, PA about 1794. He married Margaret Marshall about 1757. The names of their children are known by will. Their known children were: John b. Dec 18, 1758 Donegal, Lancaster Co., PA (m. Sarah McDowell and she died in 1857) **James, b. 1760 - m. Isabella Craighead (b. July 15, 1763 and died April 5, 1833) Mary b. 1761 married Col. John Marshall - lived in Washington Co. Isabella b. 1764 - married Robert McGee and settled in York Co., PA Hugh b. 1767 (died when a young man) ** I marked James because there are no children until Samuel b. 1802. Samuel married Sarah Phillips; they had no children. Conducted a hotel in Wellsville, OH in 1832 and in 1839 was proprietor of a hotel in New Concord, OH George (died young) There are no marriage dates for James but he could easily have married after 1781. And, if the James above is him, then there were other children who are not known. I don't know that anyone has worked on this family and any connections back to Ireland. It is known that both Samuel and Margaret crossed over on the same boat but were not then married (possibly met on the boat?). Once landed, they did marry and setteed in Donegal Township, Lancaster Co., PA. In 1777 Samuel went over to what is now Washington County [history written in 1880] and purchased land from Matthew Rodgers. All of the family moved sometime between 1778 and 1782. Now, about the census. I'm not sure about the Jas - it is a superscripted s. John? James? One of the Samuels must be the one who came from Ireland. Which leaves Robert and one Samuel unaccounted (and possibly Jas). John was married in 1787 and by the time of the 1790 Census and had a daughter, Agnes. The information is from the Parks Record, Volume 3 - "Park Family of Washington Co., PA" pp. 105-112. This information was drawn from a 121 page book called "Biographical Sketch of the Park Family, of Washington County, PA, by W. J. Park, published by J. J. Vance & Co., Covington, KY 1880" Don't know if this helps but it is possibly the best lead. You might want to see if there were subsequent passenger lists with other Park/e/s who landed after Samuel and went to Donegal Township. Judy- we corresponded a while ago about our joint Parks ancestors in Beaver county. I have a James Park born about 1798, married to a Sarah. I suspect James is the son of Thomas from land record research. I further suspect he's somehow related to the Robert and Samuel Park of this area. A few female Parks in this time period would include Mary, married to a William Harshe, and a Betsey or Elizabeth, married to a Ferrell. Your David must fit in here as well. Any new thoughts? thanks, Lynn > Hi > > My ancestors are David Park and Margaret Patterson Park from Medina = > Ohio.
