For a moment I thought that might be my great grandfather Silas, but his middle name was Samuel. Silas Samuel Parks born 1849 in Michigan. Married Lucinda Slaten, had 6 children, Newton, John, Charlie, Ola, Etta and Daisy. He died in Los Angeles in 1908 of a brain tumor and his death certificate said his father's name was John B. Parks, birthplace NY, mother was Loraine Nattles or Wattles, birthplace also NY. Maybe this will ring a bell with someone. Susan Harris Parks at scooter511@juno.com
Where in Vermont? My 3-great grandfather, Peter Glick PARKS was born in Vermont, probably Bennington County, in 1807. One known brother was Silas Leonard PARKS. Father is believed to have been John. That use of the middle name is common in my Park family as well. My uncle John Worth Park(b. 1899) was always known as Worth, my aunt Annie Margaret Park (b 1897) was known as Margaret, and I'm Anna Elizabeth Park, known as Elizabeth. My aunts and uncles always preferred to be called Worth or Margaret by their nieces and nephews, rather than "Aunt Margaret" or "Uncle Worth." Elizabeth Park

Both my McNair family (James Bonner McNair was always called Bonner), who immigrated from Scotland to Ireland to NC to Tennessee, then on to Little Rock, AR. Also all of my Parks in Northern AR in the Stone County area did this...James Cledith was always called Cledith and Harold Dean was always just Dean. Was this a common naming practice back then...or a regional thing...or something from where they came from which was probably Ireland/England/Scotland? Nancy Parks Phoenix, Az
