Looking for Robert Huntington Parks or son Abraham in Taney Cty. Mo. or. Boone Cty. Ark.
I am a Parks, and hold my head proudly because of it. Im fairly new at Genealogy and only yesterday found this list to sign up on, thereby increasing my chances, maybe of finding out something I might connect to my tree. Due to my lack of experiance at using a mailing list, a couple questions arise that someone may be able to enlighten me on. 1. Is there a site or place in can read some of the Parks mailing lists that came and went prior to my arival? (Maybe a dumb question but im asking anyway.) 2. Is there any record of some successful, conections made, from this list? My Parks tree, so far consists of mostly Georgia and South Carolina natives, but im told by an Aunt that we have relatives in North Carolina too. Im slowly documenting things as I go, but it sure is a slow go, since most of my time is spent working and making a living as a Railroad Carman. My G Grandfather was J.W. Parks b April 1851, married a Lula Tucker who was born Dec-1865 They had nine children and were mostly mill workers. They were living in Athens Ga. when the 1900 census was taken and some of them are buried there. Childrens names were: Lizzie b-12-1880, John b-11-1882, Tina b-12-1884, Mack Washington (my grandad) b-3-1887, Pearl b-3-1889, Maud b-abt 1890, Early b-10-1893, Nettie b-2-1897, Leona b-5-1899. Not documented yet what J.W. stood for but My grandad had a son he named John William unfortunately he died before his first birthday. Any help with some of these individuals would be greatfully apreciated. To all of you, whether your name be Parks or what ever I comend you and wish you well in your research. Thanks Walter Parks

Why are so many Parks brick walls? It seems like half of those posted in this roll call are, as are mine. Where did this James come from? Scot Austin James Parks was born 1786 in , , MA. He died 1859. in West Hamburg, Erie County, NY James married Mary (Polly) Brown, daughter of Nathaniel Brown and Lydia Perry. Mary (Polly) Brown was born in 1785 in , , MA. , died in 1871 Children from this marriage were: 1. Sarah Parks (-1864) 2. Perry Rufus Parks (-1861) 3. Elvira Parks (1823-1907) 4. Elizabeth Parks (-) 5. Parley Parks (-) 6. Julia Parks (-) 7. Charlotte Parks (-1848) 8. Mary Parks (-1840)
I have a good history of my Park family from 1815 to the present, but I am not sure at all about the parents or spouse of my ggg grandfather Story Park, who was born in 1777 in South Carolina. I believe that his father was Joseph Park II and that his mother's maiden name was Phebe or Sarah Bayless. I believe his grandmother was Rebecca Story who married Joseph Park I and that Story himself married a Dugan, but I have no proof. Apparently the family headed west after 1823 and ended up on the border of Mississippi and Alabama. Story had 3 sons and 5 daughters as follows: Joseph W. m. Mary (Polly) Jennings in Tuscaloosa, Al 1841 John Bailus (Bayless) m. Huldah Jane Jennings (sister of Polly) in Tusc. 1840 Anthony Thomas m. Epsa ?? Patsy m. ??Browning Dolly Lucretia m. Isaiah Hines Lucy m. Barr Mary Dugan M. Isaiah Hines after the death of Lucretia My gg grandfather was John Bailus. Bailus and Huldah had two sons before he died in MS. Huldah took the two boys, Joseph W. Park and James Knox Polk Park, first to Greene County, Al, then to Tuscaloosa, the community of Ralph, where she raised them. Both served in the Civil War. Polk, my g grandfather, married Julia A. Hickman in Tuscaloosa. Polk served as tax assessor of Tusc. Co. for 16 years, and had the first Buick dealership in Tuscaloosa. The children of Polk and Julia were: Oakley Knox, Houston, Stella, Virgil, Manly Oscar, and Mattie Jane. My grandfather was Oakley Knox Park. If anyone has any information about Story Park, or any other of these relatives, I would love to hear from you. Kaye Park Hinckley, Dothan, AL

I think this is Richard Taylor Parks (Cha-wa-nas-ka Oo-ya-lu-ga). He was a minister at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Born August 26, 1823 in Monroe Co., TN, he is the 6th child of the twelve children of Samuel Parks (12 Jan 1789-3 Jun 1841) and Susan(nah) Taylor (Cherokee, 15 Feb 1798-12 Dec 1876). He died May 13, 1912 in Oklahoma. His first wife is Elizabeth Grigsby (7 children). His second wife is Sarah Elizabeth Day (3 children). He was among the oldest persons to complete a Guion Miller application for the distribution of Cherokee settlement funds in about 1906. Samuel Parks is a bit of a mystery. Some sources say he was on the "outs" with his family for marrying a Cherokee. In "Leaves from the Family Tree," Penelope Johnson Allen says "Samuel Parks, one of twelve brothers..." There are a bunch of Parks in East Tennessee in the 1830 census, including this Samuel and an older one, perhaps an uncle. The Guion Miller application of Richard Taylor Parks says that his grandfather was Joseph Parks. No grandmother is specified. A source has told me that all family records were lost in the Civil War. Samuel Parks and Susannah Taylor are buried at Hennegar's Chapel near Cleveland, Bradley Co., TN. I would love any information on Joseph Parks and Samuel Parks. Jane, Isn't it amazing that you and I are searching for the same names but different countries, i.e.: Henry PARKS & wife Elizabeth and daughter Phoebe. Shows how easily names/families can get mixed up. Henry L. (Lones/Lohns?) Parks has been my "orphan" for about 30 yrs. now. <g> Happy hunting! Carolyn

Hello fellow Parks hunters. I'm new to the list and probably have more to gain than to offer but here is what I have. My Parks line runs through Jefferson County, Ohio. I am particularly interested in learning more about the ancestry of Robert Parks and corresponding with any other Jefferson County Parks. My line is summarized as follows: Robert Parks, b 1800 Jefferson Co. Ohio, d 1883 married Mary Hedges (b 1805, d 1883) in 1829. Robert and Mary had 9 children. They lived in Wayne Township, Jefferson Co. Ohio John, b 1832 Catharine, b 1833 David, b 1834 William, b 1835 Laban, b 1837 Amelia, b 1839 Sarah, b 1840 Mary, b 1842 Susan, b 1844 John Parks married Eliza Margaret Scott (b 1834) in 1865. They had 4 children and lived in Wayne Township, Jefferson Co. Ohio. William S., b 1866 Robert G., b 1868 Elizabeth J., b 1871 Charles S., b 1874 Can anyone help me understand anything about Robert's parents? I believe Robert had an older brother, James, born about 1798. James married Mary Copeland in 1821 and had 4 children. I think they, too, lived in Wayne Township, Jefferson Co. Ohio. Catherine, b 1828 Susanna, b 1830 James, b 1833 William, b 1836 Ray Parks [email protected]
My brick wall is Fred Parks. Born C 1801 in Connecticut, he married Lucy, went to New York for a while, then moved the family to Iowa. What I know (with source material) is at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kell/fparks.html Would love to connect. Have indications that maybe Lucy was a Van Ostrand. Also that maybe his father's name was Aaron. thanx, Kelly in RI [email protected]
