    3. Hi Dillis, I can verify that the name Herman Parks should read Hiram Parks. I have copies of census records and wills from Caswell Co., NC. One of the sons of Col. Robert Parks was the father of my Hiram Gartrell Parks, born ca. 1805 TN. Perhaps Labon Parks, who was dec'd before his father died abt. 1815? Any information you have on any Hiram Parks would be appreciated. Thanks, Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: DILLIS R. 1. [PARKS] Park family in Indiana and Ohio
    2. Scott H. Phillips
    3. Looking for any information re the following "Park" or "Parks" individuals 1. Mary A. Park was born about 1814 in Ohio [maybe Butler County]. She married Thornton Ramey on 24 Jan. 1833 in Vermillion County, Indiana. After moving with the family in or about 1860 to Linn County, Kansas, she died in Pleasanton, Ks. on 19 Mar. 1865 and is buried in the Littell Cemetery, Linn County, Kansas Question: Can anyone link up with Mary A. Park or Thornton Ramey. Would appreciate any information on their ancestors. 2. Emily Ramey, born in either Montgomery or White County, Indiana, married Omar Park on 24 Apr. 1847 in Montgomery County, Indiana. They had 3 children [no dates or place of birth] named Alonzo, Mary Louise and Florence E. Park. At one time, it was suspected that Emily was the first child born to Thornton Ramey and Mary A. Park, but it is now believed that her father was Asa Ramey. Emily died in 1858 in Montgomery Co., Ind. Omar Park then married Sarah Ramey, daughter of Thornton Ramey and Mary A. Park Ramey, who was born 26 Oct. 1839 in Montgomery Co., Ind. They married on 4 Jul. 1859 in Montgomery Co., Ind. and moved to Linn County, Kansas where the both died and are buried in the Littell Cemetery. They had 9 children. Question: Is Omar and Mary A. Park from the same family and who are their ancestors. Is Asa Ramey a relative of Thornton Ramey and who are their relatives. These and other questions have led to dead ends, so far, so I am hoping that someone can be of help. Much appreciated with any information, no matter how small. Scott H. Phillips

    1. [PARKS] PARKS George / HUGHES Catherine; Middletown,ARM,NIR > Chicago,IL,USA > Omaha,NE,USA; 1825-1882
    2. Jack
    3. PARKS George / HUGHES Catherine; Middletown,ARM,NIR > Chicago,IL,USA > Omaha,NE,USA; 1825-1882 I would very much like to get in contact with any of the family/descendents of the following George PARKS or Catherine HUGHES families still living in (Northern) Ireland. Or living elsewhere in the world. My great-grandfather George PARKS, was born about 1826 (abt.1826-1871), and his wife, Catherine (nee HUGHES), was born about 1828 (abt.1828-1911). At the time of their marriage, George lived in Feduff (sp?) and Catherine lived in Knockbawn (sp?). They were married May 2, 1856, in Middletown, in the Church of Middletown, in accordance with the "Rites and Ceremonies of the United Church of England and Ireland." According to a search of the birth registers 1864 - April 1880, of the Registration District of Tynan, George's trade is listed as either "Farmer" or "Brick Maker" at the dates of birth of three of his children - John M. (4/8/1865), Robert J. (8/4/1867) and my grandfather, James Johnston (7/18/1869-1935). Robert J. and James Johnston are subsequently listed as having been baptised in a Roman Catholic Church in Co. Armagh - both baptisms on the same day, November 7, 1871 - according to the Roman Catholic Parish of Tynan records. George and Catherine had four other children - George Parks and 3 sisters (Kate, Anna and Mary). They were also possibly baptised Roman Catholic. George later became a flax buyer. He died July 17, 1871, at age 45, in Middletown, Co. Armagh, Ireland. His son, George Jr., the oldest of the seven children, was born March 15,1858, in Middletown, Co. Armagh, and attended Irish "public schools" where he learned the spinning and weaving trade and was first employed by the firm of William Kirk & Sons (1870, Keady, Co. Armagh?). George then went to Dundalk, Co. Louth, to work in the spinning and weaving mills there. About 1871 he began an apprenticeship in the bricklayer and mason trade. In 1877 he immigrated to the USA, settling first in Chicago, IL In 1881 George (Jr.) sent for his by then widowed mother, Catherine HUGHES PARKS, who came from Ireland to Chicago with her other 6 children: George's younger siblings - Robert J., my grandfather James J., John M. and the 3 sisters - Kate, Ann and Mary. In 1888 the Mother and the 3 sons eventually followed the eldest son, George (Jr.), to Omaha, NE, where he had moved earlier in 1888. The 3 daughters remained in Chicago. My grandfather, James J. Parks, married my grandmother, Mary Jane Kenny (b. 1873, Co. Cork; d. 1943) in Omaha, NE, January 19, 1892, in St. Agnes Church (Roman Catholic). Catherine HUGHES PARKS died in Omaha, NE, in 1911. Her son George (Jr.) died May 2, 1930, in Omaha, NE. Anything further on PARKS or HUGHES families' ancestors in Co. Armagh or elsewhere in Ireland - or being pointed in a more specific direction for sources where I might write (e-mail or regular) or telephone - would be greatly appreciated. E-Mail is preferable but whatever is most convenient for you or the resource. Thank you for whatever help you can provide.

    3. Joyce... What a dimwit I am, posting by mistake under Descendants of Moses Parks, I forgot to change the subject title. I'm glad you read it anyhow. In my searches, I have seen much information about Parks families in Ohio, eastern and otherwise, and I have always been surprised that none of my people seem to have ever crossed the state line from western PA over to Ohio, but it doesn't seem that anyone did. I've never found a link to anyone in Ohio, for that matter. Weird, huh? As for the seven brothers, I'm afraid I only know they were all born in PA, that's about it. Unfortunately for me, I was born when my parents were 40, so by the time I grew up and expressed an interest in genealogy, most of the older members of my family who would know these things were already passed or not in a frame of mine to remember. I'll keep your e-mail tho, and if I should ever find where anyone made the big trek West, I'll look you up. Thanks for responding. 3. OOPS I apologize for the earlier posting under the "descendants of Moses Parks" (forgot to change the subject line!!!) - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - -------------------------------------------- My brick wall with Parks in Pennsylvania: Thomas Jefferson Parks, b. 8 Oct 1851 m. Annie Bare (Baer?) b. 26 Jul 1851. Both lived and died in Western Pennsylvania. I think they tie in somehow to the descendants of the famed John Parks (b. 1733) and Isabella Galbraith (b. 1747) m. 18 Feb 1759, also in PA. Letters we have received from historians in that family tie us into John and Isabella's grandson John, but the dates don't fit. Children of Thomas Jefferson Parks and Annie Bare: James LeRoy (my ggfather) Frank Everell, John, Ralph Roscoe, Chester Lloyd, Edward William, Fred Joseph, Charles Kenneth. Any one out there a descendant of one of those other 7 Parks sons?? I have LOTS of information on the descendants of John Parks and Isabella Galbraith, even though I have yet to definitively tie my line into theirs. So even if you can't help me with my brick wall, if you recognize John and Isabella I'll be glad to give you all I have. You may also recognize one of their children, Robert Parks m. Jane Bratton. They had 11 children and I have lots of stuff on them. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. Jennifer

    3. Parks Roll Call My Parks information begins with Hiram Parks, who according to his tombstone and the family bible was born on October 24, 1824 in GA. He died May 7, 1903 in Bradley County, Tennessee. Hiram was married on May 17, 1851 to Malinda Hull in Monroe County, Tennessee. He enlisted in the Confederate Army, Co. B., 1st Battalion, East Tennessee Cavalry at Sweetwater, Tennessee (Monroe County) on June 28, 1861 according to his civil war records. His tombstone says Co. G, 4th Tenn. Cav. (The 4th ,Branner's Tennessee Cavalry Battalion was also called the 1st, also 2nd East Tennessee Battalion) Malinda Hull's father and mother were Abraham and Elizabeth Hull according to Monroe Co. census records. I am aware of other Parks living in Monroe County at this time, but can't straighten out the connection. There were at least 3 Hiram's, gotta be a connection, also similar names used in each of the families. Would like to be able to establish who his parents were so I can go further back. In the 1880 Bradley County TN census record, Hiram is age 50, a widower living with the following in his household: Elizabeth, age 28, daughter, Franklin, age 6, grandson; Eddie, age 2, grandson; Charlie, age 25, son, farmer. Hiram Parks was my great, great grandfather. Hiram and Malinda had the following children: Alonzo L. Parks, born January 27, 1855 in Monroe Co. TN, died Oct. 30, 1906, Bradley Co., TN Elizabeth Parks, born about 1852 Robert Parks, born about 1856 (Robert is found in Ooltewah, Tennessee in a 1913 publication, as owner of the R.W. Parks dry goods store, the article states that he was the son of Hiram Parks and Malinda Hull Parks, born in Monroe Co. and that his mother died when he was a child and he was reared by an uncle. He was twice married, the first time to Miss Matilda Mitchell of Bradley County on March 8, 1882, she died Jan. 24, 1903 and he married Miss Fannie E. Rodgers of Silverdale, Jan. 8, 1905. Crawford Parks, born about 1858 D.M. Parks, born about 1859 Alonzo Parks married Susan E. Frazier (born November 10, 1858, Bradley Co.TN, died April 30, 1930, Chattanooga, TN) on September 22, 1878 In the 1900 Bradley County Tn census: Parks, L. age 43 Susan E. , wife b. 1858, age 41 Millard H., son b. Aug. 1879,age 20 Floyd W., son, b. 1881, age 18 Ernest, son, b. Sept. 1883, age 16 Robert, son, b. 1885, age 14 Hugh G., son, b. 1888, age 12 Frances L. son, b. 1890, age 10 William B., son, b. 1853, age 8 Nina, daughter, b. Jan. 1897, age 3 Millard Herbert Parks was my grandfather. He was born on August 27, 1879 in James Co., Tennessee, married Daisy Ann McSpadden on January 15, 1905 in Bradley County, Tennessee and died on February 19, 1955 in Bradley County, TN.
