For those of you searching Jr.'s and Sr.'s another list I am on have been having an interesting thread on the subject.... I was busy deleting the responses when I realized that those of us on this list that are chasing Moses might benefit from this discussion.... I copied two for you ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` I can go one better! In the 1700's and even the early 1800's, particularly Virginia, Junior did not necessarily mean there was ANY kinship. Only that there were two people of the same name living in the same area, and it was a means of differentiating the two. Of course, most usually there was a kinship; father-son, grandfather-grandson, or even an uncle-nephew. I think it goes back to the old days in England, when single names were common, and you had Henry, the elder, or Henry, the younger. With the passage of time elder became Senior, and younger became Junior. Confusing to say the least! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In days gone by, "Junior" was also, occasionally, used to distinguish anyone who was younger than an older living male with the same name... usually living in the same area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Paulette Williams I hear ethereal whispers persuasive, soft and still, "Daughter,if you don't remember us,who will?"

My most wanted Parks ancestor is Syrel Parks. He married to Lucretia Moore on 02/01/1838 in Greene County. They had a son named Terrell Parks in 1844 (1846) in Pittsfield, ILL After the Civil War, Terrell went to KS and married Jennie Coulbourne on 01/13/1888. He had two more sons Stephen S. Parks born 10/26/1873 in Missouri (I think with another wife) and Lee H born 5/1889 in KS. Anything sound familiar. Diana in OK

Karen: Thank you for the info. I would dearly love to contact the person you mentioned. I have been trying for some time now to trace ancestors, and this news was very welcome. There seems to be so many Parks listed, that I was begining to wonder when and where a tie-in would appear. Should this be the tie, you have me and my children's heartfelt gratitude! We are very proud of our heritage! If you would like names of all Peter's descendants up through my grandkids, just ask! God Bless. Dale
Thank you so very much for answering my Parks querry! I hope we can pin all this down. Very exciting! Am new to this, so please bear with me! I have names and b'dates of all Peter's descendants. If any of this will help you or any other family member, please send mailing address and I will gladly forward all I have to help you. Am attempting to gather all family data in the program "LEGACY" and forwarding preliminary books to my sons and grandsons. God Bless You! Dale
Hi Joshua, The Silas I am referring to is Silas Leonard Parks born in Arlington VT. 1801. He moved to NY and then to Mi. He was in the War of 1812 . His father was John Parks. If we have a match I would love to hear from you. Regards, Karen
It is [email protected] No capitol L.. Try again
Dear Dale, I'm glad I could help you with your Peter Parks! My address is Karen Ingram 79-790 Tangelo St., La Quinta, CA 92253. I would love to have copies of what you have. Since my Grandmother never knew her gr, grandfather, I made it my business to search for him. I don't think she knew of Silas's brothers either, although I have a copy of a letter she wrote to Congress in 1925! You meet great people on this list! Thanks Karen
Do you know if Robert had a sister Martha b. 1822? Have you a clue about Robert's parents? Thanks, Janie
Dale, I am also a descendant of Silas Leonard Parks whose brother was Peter Glick Parks. Sandra Tennyson is a descendant of Peter's also. Her e-mail is [email protected] . I have the father of Silas and Peter as John Parks a green mountain boy in the American Revolution. I need to check with Karen Ingram about the James and Mary parentage. Its new to me. Parks, born 28 Dec 1807. His son, Oscar Oren Parks born 8 Aug 1840. His son, Charles Oren Parks, born 29 Nov 1887 in Lamar, Missouri. My grandfather. I believe Charles had brother name of Wayne born 27 Oct 1896 in Lamar, Missouri, and moved later on to somewhere in Texas. This is as far back as I have been able to trace so far, as I am oldest living descendant (far as I can determine). Ring any bells?? Have more names if would help.
