Hi Jo - This will most likely only muddy the waters regarding the Parker bros. And, I am not sure that this tidbit, will add much. But, in Familes of Cavendish, Vol. 2, compiled by Linda Margaret Farr Welch, says that "it is believed that the five Parker brothers, sons of John & Margery Parker, were all born in England and joined the Charlestown Colony at the mouth of the Charles River prior to 1640" I notice there is considerable info on James, but I will send more later when I have a chance to look it over......Let me know, if you have access to the previously mentioned book, so I do not duplicate info......cheers, Phyl in Reno ----- Original Message ----- From: <Hogle1@aol.com> To: <PARKER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 12, 2004 8:01 AM Subject: [PARKER-L] John Parker's wife c 1585 > I am still searching for needed evidence to show that Joane DRAKE was the > wife of John Parker. > > In the Parish Registers found at the LDS, there is evidence that John Parker > of Great Burstead, England married Ann GELLEY in 1610. > There are baptisms/christenings in Great Burstead in the following years for > the following children: > > 1615 John Parker - listed only as "son of John Parker" > > All of the following are listed as son/daughter of "John and Ann Parker" > 1617 James Parker > 1619 Abraham Parker > 1622 Joseph Parker > 1624 Anne Parker > 1626 Jacob Parker > 1630 Joshua Parker > > > A 1999 NEHGR article regarding the Parker brothers notes that they came from > Great Burstead, England and that they were the children of "John and Anne > Parker" > Now obviously Ann can be a nickname for Joane, but I find no marriage > listing for John Parker and Joane Drake in Great Burstead. > > Therefore, I feel that the preponderance of evidence indicates that the > Parker brothers who settled in Woburn, Groton, and Chelmsford, Massachusetts were > probably those listed above and their mother is NOT Joane Drake but IS Anne > GELLEY. > > I believe that it has been accepted by many that Joane Drake was the mother > of the settling Parkers but does anyone have evidence of the fact? > > Since I am a direct descendant of James and Abraham Parker this is something > I am very interested in resolving. > > I know I have presented this before, but no evidence has been forthcoming > and I keep hoping that others will be continuing research and finding more facts > that I have missed. > > Thanks > Jo Hogle >
