Dear Friends, I have never sent out a mass warning like this, but if you run Windows XP, pay attention to the latest virus warning that has been in the news. My machine at work was infected yesterday. Luckily I detected it right away and had it fixed in 30 minutes. to learn about it do a Google search for LovSan worm You need to get a patch for XP from microsoft to prevent future infections. (be sure to thank uncle bill) Update your virus software (for McAfee you need DAT files 4284 or newer) and do a COMPLETE scan of all files including compressed files Learn how to use the personal firewall that is supposed to be part of XP. In particular, you need to close Port 135. My neighbor who works in info-tech says he turned everything off and then enabled a single port that he knew he needed. If you are not running a server there is probably no reason to have open ports. www.mcafee.com has information on how to remove the infection manually if you have to. Warning - this involves Regedit.
