Technically still in the Brushy Mountains but at the lower elevations. Hunting Creek starts high up in the Brushys but by the time it gets to the Parker land it has dropped almost 750 feet. Richard Parker the best I can tell was born about 1880 in Wilkes. Unsure of who his father was, it is possible he was not born in Wilkes but came there after being born. One cousin found an indication that a John Parker from around Grayson Co, Va was Richard's father but I have not been able to substantiate that piece of information. I can find no record of a John tied to Richard in Wilkes. My family, I would be the six generation still owns about 230 acres of land. The Parkers owned both less and more over the years from looking at the deeds. The land was divided up among children of Newbern and later James Leander over the years. Some of it is no longer in the hands of the family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
