    1. [PARKER] Parkers of Ms, Al and SC in 1800s
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: atodisco Surnames: Parker/Thompson/Musgrove/Ingram or Engram/Baggett Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.parker/15848/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Parkers of my ancestry have stumped me more than any other family. I became interested in them because there is supposedly a Native American connection and because of all the stories my grandmother told me when I was a child. She said that her family, which was Parker/Thompson originally came from NY and Pennsylvania and were of Dutch heritage. I have not found one shred of evidence verifying any of this, but in genealogy, strange things turn out to be true, so I continue to search. The oldest part of this line for which I have any information is John Parker (b ca 1792 SC, d. 1865( JB Parker died at Camp Douglas in Chicago in1875, as did Caledonia's husband Loveberry Musgrove, so there is the possibility that this is the same John Parker ). His wife is listed as Susannah (b. 1799) in several censuses in Neshoba County, Ms(1840, 50, 60, 70 (Susan only this year)). They have recorded property in Neshoba Count( Section 4, T11, range11 on Pearl River) and John left a will,l which was witnessed by his son, William R. Parker in 1865. Their children include: James Shelton or Sheldon Parker b 1825 SC, d. 9/3/1864, , probably in the Civil War (m. Mary Ingram or Engram b. Aug 13, 1822); Ellender or Ellen Dear Parker b ca 1825 SC (she may have been Caledonia's mother according to the timeline). Mary or (Haseltine) Caledonia Parker b. July 27, 1843, Neshoba, Ms. ; William R. Parker b ca 1827, m Nancy b 1832. Daniel Parker may have also been a son of John consider! ing the close proximity of his residence and the use of family names for children. The 1850 US Census (page 122b) for Neshoba County, Ms. lists entries # 140-148 as the John Parker Family: "John Parker, 58, m, farmer, 200 (acres) SC Susannah, 51, f, " William, 23, m, farmer," Ellender, 25, f, " Caladonia, 7, f, Miss" the following entry is: "Shelton Parker, 25, m, farmer 100, SC Mary, 26, f, Al Washington, 4, m, Miss William, 3, m," Susan 31/2,f,Miss" The next entry is: "Daniel Parker, 30, m, farmer, 200, SC Letty, 40, f, " Sam'l, 5, m, Miss" The family appears to have been in Burnt Corn Springs, Al, before they came to Ms. with Catherine and Susan E as members of the family, in 1819. Perhaps they stayed behind in Al. when the family moved on. A Samuel Parker was also present at this time and both John and Samuel are listed on the tax rolls. James Shelton was married to Mary Ingram at this location. I have no information beyond this except for information regarding Caledonia, who married Loveberry Musgrove, from a very interesting family, and then Silas Baggett. She is the beautiful young woman in the photograph. Haseltine Victoria was her second child with Musgrove. A son died while an infant.I visited her grave in Sumrall, Ms. Haseltine married George Thompson of Neshoba, Ms.. I am preparing a website with more information and photographs. If anyone has info regarding the history or ancestors of John and Susannah Parker, I would very much like to hear from you. Email me at: ATodisco@aol.com with Parker genealogy in the subject line. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
