Thanks for replying. Until DNA testing came along I would have spent my entire lifetime trying to prove a connection between the two lines that do not exist. I am still trying to find my maternal line, Charles Parker, my grgr grandfather. He was supposed originally from NC or SC. But everything I explore leads everywhere but back to his father. Very frustering as you can imagine. Can you explain your FG#7. I would never have understood all of the Parker lines if I had not become a part of Eastern Shores Parker Website where I found out about the occupational name of Parker. Author: pandjparker Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.parker/8206.2.1.1.1.1.1.1.3.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, Janet Gaston - Thank you for taking the time to explain all of that to me. I see that it could take years of research to unravel. What I can take from this - please correct me if I am wrong - is that on one side you have a paternal great grandfather Parker whose living male Parker descendant(s) tested to #5. Then you have a maternal great great grandfather Parker whose living male Parker descendant(s) tested to #16. Then later, two offspring, one each from each of those two lines, married and I'm guessing they were your grandparents? They had your mom. And she had you. Is that right? If that is the case, then a dual but unrelated surname ancestry of that type is not unusual at all, especially in Parkers. It is really no different than having two completely different surnames like Parker and Smith. Early dual Parkers were found repeatedly in Mississippi, Louisiana, and here in Texas where at least four separate Parker bloodlines migrated with, lived near, and intermarried over hundred of years until about WWI. Apparently it was even more prevalent in Virginia and the Carolinas until the Civil War. I read somewhere that it is called the Parker Puzzle. The big difference is that you are the very first Parker descendant I have read of who took the time and effort to track the two lines back and actually confirm how and when the dual Parker lineage occurred. My mother kept telling me that there was no connection that anyone in the family had been able to find over the years. But since both famiies came to TX from Alabama and settled in the same areas it seemed that there had to be a connection. It turned out my mom was correct. Her grandmother on her dad's side of the family was Wilson Ashley Parker who came to Moscow, TX prior to the Civil War with a lot of his family. Parents remained in Red Level, Covington Co., Al. He is FG#5, well documented. My mom's grandmother on her mother's side of the family came to Moscow area from Alabama. Her brothers also served in the Civil War from TX. Her father tested out in FG#16. His father is still unknown today. Others in #16, are apparently cousins, etc. but still can't find that common ancestor. His father was apparently from N.C. or S.C. and moved into Alabama! . I am so grateful to the DNA testing that finally proved that my two lines were not related. It took me awhile to find a male Parker on my maternal grandmothers side who would do the test. Circumstantial evidence had convinced me and several other researchers that Charles Parker would be in the FG#11 with John Parker and Rachel Shipley as parents. This proved not to be the case however. I wish each Parker family would have one of their families do this simple swab test and get their DNA documented. It would make it much easier for all of us. Author: pandjparker Surnames: Parker, Sparrow, Armstrong Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.parker/8206.2.1.1.1.1.1.1.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, Jeannette - Today, there are thirty-nine very separate Parker bloodlines, called Family Groups, in the Parker YDNA Project. Of that number, Family Group #5 is comprised of the test results of twenty-two different Parker males. Those males represent different branches of their particular Parker tree and share the same markers, but have earliest common ancestors who may have lived thousands of years ago. One or more FG#5 ancestors, like those in some of the other Family Groups, may have gone to Ohio and elsewhere, while others of that same bloodline went south. Researchers today have identified family after family of FG#5 Parkers in each of the specific places you named, NC, GA, AL, and MS. They were - and are - numerous there. I hope you can learn more about your Parker ancestry. Dennis West will help you if he can. You are probably aware that Christopher Adams Parker himself had no known descendants, so tracing him personally is not likely. However, he left a sizeable and extended set of Armstrong and Sparrow relatives in Mississippi, Louisiana, and up the East Coast. I can help you with his sister Minerva Parker Sparrow if you are interested. Advise at jandpparker@msn.com. Good luck in your research.
