    1. [PARKER] Parker Homestead-1665, Little Silver, NJ
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: keiwel01 Surnames: Parker Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.parker/15954/mb.ashx Message Board Post: George Parker of Kent, England arrived in Boston in the spring of 1635, having sailed on the Elizebeth and Ann. He shortly relocated to Portsmouth, RI with his wife Frances, where they produced five children. Daughter Mary lived her entire life in the Portsmouth area. Joseph, Peter, George and Meribah all relocated to Shrewsbury in Monmouth, NJ in 1665 or 1666. Meribah married John Slocum but they never had children. George married Sarah Smith of Burlington, NJ, had several children and all relocated to Burlington, upon the death of Sarah. Joseph married Margaret Slocum and Peter married Sarah Cooke. Both couples had several children and established large farms with basic homes in the Little Silver section of Shrewsbury, NJ (later known as Parkerville). After the death of his wife, Peter and children returned to Portsmouth, RI, leaving Joseph as the sole remaining original Parker in the Shrewsbury area. Joseph and his son Peter continued to successfully add property to their farms, eventually reaching over 200 acres with at least one small house for the family. Eight generations of Parkers lived in, expanded and improved the Homestead, while continuing to farm smaller portions of the property. In 1994, Julia Parker, the last Parker to own and occupy the Homestead, conveyed the Homestead to the Borough of Little Silver. Her will stipulated it be preserved as an educational resource while remaining true to its history and status as one of the oldest properties in the United States continuously occupied by the same family. The Borough, using grants and donations obtained with help from a citizens' advisory committee, has stabilized the farmhouse, adding modern climate control systems, replacing the roof, etc. In February 2012, the Homestead was named to the National Registry of Historic Places. Also in 2012, the advisory committee was incorporated as a New Jersey not-for profit corporation, The Parker Homestead-1665 Inc. and has applied for 501(C) (3) status. Many online sites and researchers also claim that Nathaniel Parker and wife Ann Clayton were the parents of Elder John Parker and his brother Daniel. The Carney Genealogy site is an example. This is what you are up against: Parker Surname YDNA Project YDNA results match a living male who tests into a group, along with the lineal ancestors and descendants of: 1) Nathaniel Parker in Family Group #18 Nathaniel Parker's parents were John Parker and Elizabeth Taliaferro (Tolliver) 2) Elder John Parker in Family Group #5 Elder John and Daniel Parker's parents have yet to be effectively identified Google the Carney Genealogy site online, and you can decide for yourself if this very nicely done site mixes up two separate blood lines and families. It is very possible that some of the children attributed to Nathaniel 1724 Parker and Ann Clayton actually are not theirs. Elder John and Daniel are from another bloodline. It is certainly possibly to be a part of one family or the other, but not both at the same time. So at this point I cannot name the father of Moses, Elder John's nephew. If you would like more details on this puzzle, please email me at jandpparker@msn.com and I will email you my material. It is a little long for this message board. My Parker family is not related to any of these people. They are listed in the "book" of Turnbull Baptist Church near Nashville. I have some confusion as I have a Moses Parker, with father: Nathaniel who would have only been 14 yrs of age at the time Moses was born (which while possible, is a bit unbelievable). I have found several Nathaniels, one born 1708 in VA which would be more believable. Did he have a son named Nathaniel? Thanks... from a confused Texan. His mother was born in California abt 1916. Her parents were Roy Gideon Parker & Emma Curtis Vincent Parker. I've found Census info from 1910 forward, but nothing prior for Roy Gideon. He was born in Arkansas. My brother remembers Roy Gideon's mother's maiden name as Mary Lee Rice. He cannot remember Roy's father's name. I've been reading the Parker posts to the point my eyes are rolling around in my head, so I may have missed something, but if anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. :) My brother is 75 and this is my gift to him to thank him. :))) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
