    3. I am sending this to all 3 websites because all families intertwine. The first Parker I have is James Parker b 1818 from Massachusetts. He md Amanda Kimball in Covington LA about 1856. They had a daughter Aurilla. She md my ggf John Myers. They had 3 children with only one surviving. His name was Also John Myers b 1883. He was my gf. He md Josephine Sharp and they had 11 children . As of this date only one survives. She does not know anything about the family, her father. I was a Parker before I md. My father was John Robert b 1894 in Washington Parish, LA. His parents were Joseph Pink and Chinecia Williams Parker. His parents were Clinton and Lucinda Mizell Parker. From what I have been told, Clinton died in Texas on a cattle drive and is buried around Goose Creek. If anyone has any information on these families, please contact me privately. I am at a stone wall on all of them. It seems as though I am the only one searching these families. No one else has put any info that might even give me a clue on the site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jean

    2. Margie and George Parker
    3. Dear Friends, I have never sent out a mass warning like this, but if you run Windows XP, pay attention to the latest virus warning that has been in the news. My machine at work was infected yesterday. Luckily I detected it right away and had it fixed in 30 minutes. to learn about it do a Google search for LovSan worm You need to get a patch for XP from microsoft to prevent future infections. (be sure to thank uncle bill) Update your virus software (for McAfee you need DAT files 4284 or newer) and do a COMPLETE scan of all files including compressed files Learn how to use the personal firewall that is supposed to be part of XP. In particular, you need to close Port 135. My neighbor who works in info-tech says he turned everything off and then enabled a single port that he knew he needed. If you are not running a server there is probably no reason to have open ports. www.mcafee.com has information on how to remove the infection manually if you have to. Warning - this involves Regedit. Get advice from someone you trust. George Parker

    1. [PARKER-L] PARKER DNA Project
    2. Cousins: I have set up our PARKER family DNA project at FTDNA http://www.familytreedna.com/ I have also created a web page for the project at: http://web.utk.edu/~corn/parkerdna/ The page is pretty crude, since I'm still in the learning process for this. There is some basic information, and links to other pages with very extensive information about DNA for genealogy. To participate go to this site and complete the form: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?group=Parker this form results in an email sent to me, then I send you another email with directions for ordering a test kit. If it sounds too complicated, send me the below information and I will place an order for you: Name of person to be tested: Postal address: Telephone No: email address: If you want to order a test kit for one of your PARKER relatives and have the kit sent to you, I need your name, address, telephone, and email. I will still need the name of the person to be tested. Please contact me with any questions you may have. Dennis West in Knoxville, TN descended from Isham PARKER, 1815 AL

    1. [PARKER-L] PARKER DNA testing
    2. Cousins: Would anyone be interested in a DNA project for the PARKER surname? I have little hope left of finding the family of my Isham PARKER b abt 1815, unknown. Last known residence, Weakley Co. TN 1880. Surname DNA testing might connect me to another PARKER family. The test that is used is the Y chromosome test. The Y chromosome determines whether a child is male or female. Males have an XY chromosome pair, females have an XX chromosome pair. The Y chromosome is passed from father to son for generations without change. It can be used to track the male PARKER line backward. Y chromosome testing cannot be used if your PARKER ancestor was female. But you might be able to locate a male PARKER descendent from your PARKER line for testing. The DNA test does NOT tell you who your ancestor was, or when or where he lived. The value of the DNA test lies in the comparison of the DNA from one PARKER male with the DNA of another PARKER male. If the two samples match, then we are almost certain that the two people share a common ancestor. The DNA sample is obtained by using a paper swab to wipe the inside of the cheek, it is painless. The cost of the test is $170, if we do it as a group surname project. The company that is doing most of the DNA for genealogy is Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) their web page is: http://www.familytreedna.com/ We have started a DNA project for our WEST surname, and I am excited about the potential use of this new technology for DNA. We need commitments from 6 people to get the discounted rate from FTDNA. Contact me if you are interested. Dennis West in Knoxville, TN
