I have the family of John R. Parker on the 1850 Union Parish, LA census with a R. Durham listed as an overseer who was born is North Carolina. Does anyone know if this R. Durham is related to John Parker somehow. I do have more information on the Parker family if needed. I see reports that Soloman Parker b. ca. 1794 married Elizabeth Massengale. They lived in Jackson County, NC. on the 1860 census. Does anyone have any source for the marriage of these two or any circumstantial evidence to suggest that this is so. I can find nothing to prove this claim.
I have seen much information on the Internet that states Daniel Coleman Parker, son of William Parker, Jr. and Martha Pleasant Anderson was married to Marinda Brown. This information, I believe, comes from a manuscript by Elizabeth Crawford Barton. Ms. Barton is the source often cited for the family of William Solomon Parker. She has done a great job, unfortunately she does not cite any source. I respectfully disagree with her regarding the marriage of Daniel Coleman Parker to Marinda Brown. As I understand it, the names of Pleasant Parker and his brother Daniel Coleman Parker where found in a Cathey family Bible record. (Pleasant Parker married Rececca Cathey.) Ms. Barton thought that Daniel Coleman may have gone to Indian territory in Oklahoma. #1. Daniel Coleman Parker was born ca. 1802. -from Ms. Barton's manuscript. #2. Daniel Parker marriage bond to Marinda Brown was dated January 11, 1845 in Haywood County. (Haywood Co. NC marriage bonds: Daniel Parker x Marinda Brown 1-11-1845 Samuel Higdon / Enos Hooper .) This is a different, much younger Daniel Parker. This young couple is shown on the 1850 census. (Daniel Parker household, 1850 U.S. Census, Haywood Co., NC. p.189 family #817. Daniel Parker, 25 m farmer born NC; Marinda Parker, age 20 f; Sarah Parker, age 4 f; Levi Parker, age 1 male.) They lived next door to Levi Brown, who was Marinda's brother. Notice Daniel's age is 25, not 48. Daniel Parker was murdered by John C. Hooper on 31 Jan. 1851. Trial records are found at NC State Archives and I have transcribed them. In the 1860 census, Levi Parker and his siblings were with Soloman Parker and his wife Elizabeth. Soloman Parker was, also, the one who asked for a change of venue for the trial- so I'm guessing that he was Daniel's father. Marinda Brown Parker deserted her children and is probably the M.Brown shown on the 1860 back in her father's household. By 1870 she remarried to Alfred Ferguson Fortner and they ended up in Florida. The 1830 Haywood County census shows that Soloman Parker did have a one son under 5 years of age, whom I'm guessing is this #2 Daniel Parker. While this is all circumstantial, I believe the Barton book on the Parkers is incorrect in the Daniel Coleman Parker information.

Re: Soloman Parker household, 1850 U.S. Census, Haywood County, North Carolina, p. 188, family no. 810. Parker, Soloman 55 m. farmer/no real estate born NC can't read, write Elizabeth 55 f , Easter 27 f, Elizabeth 18 f, Nancy 15 f, Mary 6 f, James 1 m Haywood County, North Carolina Marriage Bonds. Easter Caroline Parker; Peter Mathus, Sr.- Bond no. 65855, 11 August 1839. Bondsman: Isaac N. Keener, Witness: J. Keener. Comment: I suspect the Easter in the 1850 census is the same woman as Easter Caroline who married Peter Mathis. It appears to me that she returned home. I think that Mary age 6 and James age 1 are here children, rather than the children of Elizabeth Parker. That Elizabeth would have been 49 and 51 when those children were born. Does anyone have knowledge of Easter and Peter Mathis? Thanks, Drew
Good Evening cousins, Our PARKER DNA project web pages are: http://web.utk.edu/~corn/parkerdna/ http://www.parkerdna.org/ We now have 118 participants in the project. Lab analysis is complete for 99 participants, and we have found 13 family groups based on DNA matches. We think the project is doing exactly what we hoped. Paper genealogies have been confirmed, paper genealogies have been contradicted, new relationships have been found, disappointment at not finding genetic relationships has been experienced. I believe more strongly than ever that everyone researching their family origins should have the DNA tested for their line (provided a suitable subject can be found). As the science progresses we expect DNA to reveal even more about our family origins. Please email Greg or I if you have questions about the project. I am changing my Parker list email to a snew addy that I have dedicated to only specific genealogy surname lists. If you are contacting me about a Parker connection, please use the email addy _WhitPark@aol.com_ (mailto:WhitPark@aol.com) This Hogle1 email addy will remain open and active so using it will still get to me, but I prefer to have it all in one place. Thanks Jo Hogle
