Author: DawnBohannon44 Surnames: Hopps/Parker/Butler Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.parker/15255/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have been working for several days filling in Butler data. Emily Butler married Hiram Parker and their daughter Etta Jane married George Edward Hopps. George Edward Hopps is my g-g-grandfather. Is how it goes. So now I'm doing some detective sleuthing here. James Reed Butler is a brother of Emily. He married several times. I found him on 1860, 1900, and 1910 censuses. Great! He married first wife Elizabeth Weaver in 1856. She and TWO children are with him in 1860 census. Have death date for Elizabeth in 1869. Birth records for each child say they died "after 1862". So where is he in 1870 and 1880????? Hmmmmmmm . . . Look at this 1870 census for Granite, Sacramento, Calif. Original shows James Butler, age 35 (right age) and his "vocation" but it is hard to read. Looks like it could be "Champagne Maker". He is in a dwelling with several unrelated folks, all appear to be working for Benjamin Bugby, Wine Grower. Any comments? Suggestions? Ideas? Or just pitch if you could really care less. Author: mollyblue_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.parker/15160.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Wow, finally someone else is researching the Parkers! I have some information on them, but have not been able to find them in Ireland yet. More and more records are being digitized, so I think it's just a matter of time until we find that magic document that will unlock the door to Ireland...unless you've already found it. I haven't looked for that branch of the family for a while, but am revisiting them due to all of the new records online. I have all of the census records except one where it looks like they skipped Happy Hollow in Taunton - damn census workers! I have them in many directories and on a Taunton landowners map also. Here's a thought maybe the Thomas Hamilton who is living with them in 1860 is a younger brother or relative of Elizabeth. Hamilton Parker is obviously named after him, so that shows some affection for the name. What do you think and are there any records beyond what I listed you have and would like to share?
