My gggrandmom Ellen Gerin-Gear-Garan? b 1805 in Kerry Ireland, came to America abt 1863? she lived in Phila the rest of her life. I am trying to find her last corect name. 1880 Census syas her name is Ellen Carroll , marr. a john Carrol abt 1878? she is a widow living with her daughter Margaret Smith 1880 nee Gare. Can not find her death date , marr. date ships list. she is not listed on any of her daughter Margaret church records. she is buried in Holy cross, but she was removed to there 1905 from ? thamks for reading. Hi Lorri It might be well nigh on impossible o ever be really sure what her correct surname was. I have friends whose surname is Burilin but there is no such name historically. They went from Ireland to Liverpool (England) in the 1840s or 50s and were illiterate so their name was probably Burlin or Barlin but if you imagine it pronounced with an Irish accent you can see how it became Burilin They kept the name anyway.
