I have a Trinity Oxford tombstone inscription (Trinity Church tombstone records LDS #21590) that reads: "Elizabeth Wright, relict of William Ashton, b 1772 d 1843" This is the ONLY reference to what I think is Elizabeth's maiden name, but I can't find a family for her, and I wonder if there's a mistake? I feel like I've exhausted all the known Wrights in the Philadelphia area and can find no leads. They lived in the Lower Dublin/Oxford area (NE) of Philadelphia. Elizabeth would have married William around 1791-92 when she was about 19-20 years old, but there's no church records. Trinity only intermittently had a minister at that time, so either they didn't marry there, the records were destroyed or don't exist, or someone else married them. I find nothing in available out of state records either. Elizabeth's first son's middle name was KEEN, suggesting that could also be a maiden name, or maybe her mother's maiden name, but I've found no WRIGHT/KEEN connections. And while there's been a couple Ashton/Keen marriages, it hasn't been with William's direct line, or his siblings. The KEEN family also appears to be well-researched. Elizabeth married a second time, after William died, to a man named WHITE. Was it generally "protocol" to list the wife's maiden name when buried with her first husband, after marriage to a second? Could someone have mistakenly carved WRIGHT vice WHITE? Her son Joseph Keen Ashton also married an Elizabeth WRIGHT; if he was the informant, perhaps named were accidentally switched? I should also note that I'm aware families tended to stick together over generations, so 2 generations marrying into the same family (ie Wrights) was pretty normal. But I've investigated this, and can't find a connection. Can anyone help? I'm so frustrated. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Sharon
