    2. Mary, Thank you for clarifying! I wholeheartedly agree about the staff at the Archdiocese. They are wonderful. Isn't New Cathedral also an Archdiocesan Cemetery? Elaine was looking for family there. It is a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics. The Archdiocesan cemeteries and founding dates-Calvary 1945, (Old) Cathedral 849, Holy Cross 1890, Holy Sepulchre 1892, SS. Peter and Paul 1958, St. ohn Neumann 1981, Resurrection 1959, All Souls 2009. The Catholic emeteries office has a small, very polite staff. I count over 50 parish cemeteries, some of them very old. St. Denis, avertown, is outstanding for friendly response to queries. Also, the Philadelphia Catholic Archives does NOT do cemetery searches. Some cemeteries in Philly are not considered Archdiocesan and the records are kept at that cemetery's church. AND...Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon is part of the Philadelphia Archdiocese. I'm pretty sure that New Cathedral is covered under the Archdiocese since it is not associated with a church Parish. You do have to know the date of death for the Catholic Cemeteries Office. I don't think they do searches but I could be wrong. You could try the Philadelphia Catholic Archvies. pahrc89@gmail.com They charge $15.00 an hour for research fees. You can email them and ask them for free, however. ******** isit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/PAPHILAD ******** ------------------------------ o unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PAPHILAD-request@rootsweb.com ith the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of he message

    3. Of course! New Cathedral was founded in 1868. It is beautifully kept, an oasis of beautiful green surrounded by the buildings of Philadelphia! AND the caretaker has a wonderful Irish brogue I could listen to all day long!
