    1. [PAPhl] Probate Info for Isaac ASHTON -- Help
    2. LegmDavis via
    3. I'd like to see the probate info for Isaac Ashton who d 1829-1830 in Lower Dublin Twp, Philadelphia Co. Unfortunately the Phila Co probate records are not online (at least on Family Search). I've been told Isaac did not have a will, but administration, and it was recorded in the "1830 file 188 Book N, pg 34." Is there anyone who might be making a trip to the courthouse/register of wills(?) that could look this up for me? I'm willing to pay expenses. Your help is appreciated. Sharon

    3. Sharon, Its very easy to do by mail and it only takes a week or so. Send a $15.00 check made out to the "Register of Wills" and send to: Register of Wills Room 180 - City Hall Philadlephia, PA 19107 Provide along with the check a letter stating your name, address and the following: 1. The decedent's full name and possible variations in surname spelling. 2. Date of death (if you don't have the specific date then 1829 / 1830 will do) 3. Be careful giving them the exact "1830 file 188 Book N pg 34" and asking them to just look for that. They may just look there only and if it doesn't match then they will say no such file exists. State something like "it may be" that file. I say that because sometimes files hide inside other files and someone else's probate records are mixed in (happened to me). Another reason is the file names look more like this on their end: A - 250- 1823 or W - 80 - 1803 the last numbers being the year of death… so your exact file number may be something more like N - 188 - 1830 or maybe N - 34 - 1830? … so again don't ask them to look at a specific number, rather bgive them as much info as you can with the caveat that you are not 100% sure "1830 file 188 Book N pg 34" is the file number. 4. If they find anything they will send you a form letter with checked off lines on what type and quantity of pages they found, i.e. Will / Admin, Letters, Inventory, Bonds, etc. The cost is $2 per page and $3 for oversized pages. If they find 8 pages and they are all normal size they will ask for you to send a check for $16 AND a self-addressed stamped envelope for them to return the copies. It is all explained in their form letter. I have done this many times and from start to finish it usually takes 1 to 1.5 weeks.
