    3. Well there was a Cooper River in New Jersey, just on the other side opposite Philadelphia. I think it was probably named after a family that settled there. Not sure when the river acquired that name, but surely not before about 1680. Your entry seems to indicate "the Jerseys" (maybe) which is what the state of NJ was --West and East Jersey --for a while.
