    3. I notice that you joined this list about one minute before posting your diatribe. Doesn't sound to me as if you supported this list in the past and it is the fact that the lists have been pretty much moribund for a long time now that that has resulted in Ancestry deciding they are no longer needed or worth the time and effort to support them. Times change and the resources genealogists use change along with them. I'd urge people who actually DO use this list to use the RootsWeb/Ancestry message board for Philadelphia as an alternative resource. It is fairly active and we have many valuable "helpers" on the board. The boards are archived just like the list and they are free to use. If you want to post on the boards you do need a FREE Ancestry guest account but using the boards is totally free. https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.philadelphia/mb.ashx I'd suggest bookmarking the message board. 2. Thank you Joan for saying this! Ancestry has supported the mailing lists for almost twenty years without asking for anything. Very few people are using any of the lists and many of them are dead as a doornail. It is surprising that Ancestry continued for as long as they did. 3. not really. Ancestry did mis-management several times. Joan knows as well as I do know. Ever since Randy Winch died, nothing much was done to debug software and move to new servers, resulting in long term shut downs few times. The last big shut down really hurt the most, to the point there were very few posts each day from many lists, causing many listadmins to quit. 2. And you blame it all on Ancestry, whatever or why ever? Not so and Ancestry stuck by Rootsweb in spite of all those problems and those naysayers who screamed how Ancestry would abandon us within months or at best a year or two. -----Original Message----- From: W David Samuelsen <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 8, 2020 11:40 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [PAPhl] Re: Mailing lists on RootsWeb will be disabled in March 2020 not really. 3. God forbid! I wanted to get the word out. I have been involved with RootsWeb long before Ancestry had anything to do with it. I would like to know how RootsWeb is governed and managed. It is a new era and RootsWeb should become independent again. The fact that you are an Ancestry sycophant and a rude administrator is sad and pathetic. 3. I'm sorry to hear the e-mail lists are not going to continue but happy to hear the message boards are active and free. Thanks for that link, Joan! RootsWeb was very beneficial when I first started doing genealogy, long ago now, and it was an amazing volunteer-driven site that I missed when it went down - then I got used to not having it. There are many messages going around that one will have to pay to use the Ancestry message boards, glad to hear that isn't true.
