They were already English subjects. Only non-English citizens took an oath. These oaths were shipped to London. That is exactly what I wrote: "Unless we are talking about the oaths the non-English citizens (males age 16 and over) had to take between 1727 and the Revolution upon arriving in the Port of Philadelphia.
