I should have sent this first to the Philadelphia website since this is where the Dawson family undoubtedly originated. I would like to find the first Dawsons. Can anyone help? Thanks so much. This information comes mostly from my Dawson great-aunt's memoirs. I am interested in this family's history before 1800 when they may have lived in Berks/Dauphin County after coming from the Philadelphia vicinity. 1st generation: UNKNOWN Ch: EDWARD, b. 1779 d. 1848; married and had 13 children Daniel b. 1780 d. 1821; drowned in Susquehanna, Selinsgrove, Union/Northumaberland County, m. Christina Brown Mary b. 1782 d. 1852, unmarried 2nd generation: EDWARD m. Mary Yoxheimer, 6 Oct 1807, Sunbury, PA Ch: Jacob b. 1807 d. 1872, Muncy, m. Ann Martin of Augusta, 6 April 1831 Henry b. 1809 d. 1852, m. Jane Walton of Muncy, 15 July 1834 Huldah b. 1811 d. 1834, m. Samuel Mann 1836 DANIEL, b. 1813 d. 1850, m. Maria Renn of Augusta Catherine b. 1815, m. Henry Foulk 1835, lived in Sunbury Thomas b. 1817 d. 1843 m. Susannah Dreher Sarah b. 1819 d. 1848 unmarried Mary b. 1820 d. 1828 Isaac b. 1822 married, lived in Warrn, Ohio Margaret b. 1823 d. 1829 Edward b. 1825 married, lived in St. Louis, Missouri Joseph b. 1827 m. Ella Kitchen 1856, lived in Peru, S.A. Mary/Martha b. 1829 m. Philip Oberdorf, lived in Iowa I have more information on later generations but my present research is focused on the early ones. Given the repetition of the same given names, it seems likely that EDWARD's children reflect names of his parents, grandparents, etc. Currently, I am researching a possible link to Jacob b. 1750 in Chester, PA, d. 1808 Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohiio (m. Anna Salne), s/o Isaac b. 1720 Edgmont, Chester Co., PA, d. 1780 Frederick VA (m. Mary Cherry), s/o Thomas b. abt. 1690/1700, probably in England, buried West Caln, Chester Co., PA (m. Mary____). There are, of course, other possibilities. Thanks so much for any help! Natalie ndburrows@verizon.net
