I've been working my RILEY-MCCABE line, and it leads back to Philly. My g-g-g-grandfather William MCCABE married Annie RILEY in Chester, Delaware County, PA. William is the son of Benjamin MCCABE and his wife Jennie (who I believe is also Mary Jane). I can place the McCabe's in Philadelphia in 1870, but would appreciate help/advice in (1) locating this McCabe family in 1860 and (2) making a connection between McCabe and Farren (spelled Farron on the census). I believe Jennie may be a Farren/on, but so far have not located a marriage for her and Benjamin in Philadelphia, nor have I found a birth record for their older children in Philadelphia. I've not yet looked into Farron births as I first need to confirm a connection. Here's what I've got using census (I also have other records, but that would make this entirely too long and it's long enough!). In 1930, Mary J. McCabe, age 86, widowed, born in PA, is living in Chester, Delaware County; in 1920, Mary Jane McCabe, age 74, widowed, born in PA, is living in Chester; in 1910, Jennie McCabe, age 63, widowed, born in PA, is head of the household in Chester; in 1900, Jane McCabe, age 53, widowed, born in PA, is head of the household in Chester. In 1880, Benjamin MCCABE, age 42, bricklayer, born in PA is married to Jennie, age 36, born in PA with children Benjamin, William, Mary, Genevieve, Thomas, Lewis, Agnes; and with mother Mary McCabe age 76 born in Ireland. The above is why I believe "my" Jennie is actually Mary Jane with the nickname of Jennie. Now for the Philly connection and possible McCabe-Farron(en) connection... 1870: Dwelling 914, South 19th St., 9th Precinct, 26th Ward, Philadelphia: This is where I'd been overlooking some clues that I am now following up on. MCCABE Benj., 30; Jennie 25; Benj. Jr. 4; Willie 2; Francis 1; MCCLUNG Kate 20; Thomas 4; DRAIN Patrick 65; Catherine 60; Hugh 30; Cathrine 20; Isabella 15; FARRAN Thomas 20. This is the 2nd enumeration; I only yesterday located the 1st enum which gives slightly different information: no DRAIN family members in the household as they actually live next door, and ages are different but only slightly. In following up on 1870, I find in Philadelphia in 1860 the Farron family: Thomas, age 46, born Ire, coal dealer; Mary, age 33, born Ire; children Patrick, age 14, born in Phila.; William, age 11, born in Phila.; Mary Jane, age 6, born in Philadelphia; Catherine, age 4, born in Phila.; Thomas, age 1, born in Phila. I believe that Mary Jane FARRON may have married Benjamin MCCABE, but have not yet been able to confirm it or to find McCabes prior to 1870 or Farrons other than Patrick after 1870. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!
