Hello I can't seem to find the family of William and Mary McLaughlin in the 1880 census. I have found them in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census. They were married in 1876 and had at least one son by 1880, James, who would have been about 2. William was born about 1850 in Philadelphia and Mary was born 1854-1858 in Ireland. William was a cooper. They were married in St. Patricks at 242 S 20th St. and lived at 1524 S Dorrance St in 1900 and at 1732 S 18th St in 1910 and 1920. I have tried to find them using Ancestry.com employing various spellings of their name but no luck. I suspect a typo in the index (at least I hope that is the reason) Since the 1880 census isn't available in Heritage Quest I'm stumped. I've checked the Dorrance St. Address (ED 559) in 1880 and will go page by page. Just hoping someone may have a better index to save my sanity. When I have problems finding someone on Ancestry, I use Soundex instead of Exact and see what comes up. Gives so many more names and certainly MCLaughlin could have been misspelled. It is worth a try. The 1880 is so user friendly you can even put in a first name only. This may result in way too many responses but you can narrow it down a bit with an area, an age, etc. You could try William one time and Mary another and compare to see if there is a match for both. Worth a try. Diane in CO l faris <phillyirish2003@yahoo.com> wrote: Hello I can't seem to find the family of William and Mary McLaughlin in the 1880 census.
