Laura, I beleive you have the wrong date of death. In 1920 I find Joseph Townsend living in Philadelphia with his wife Mary E. Also in the house is an Edward and May Hillis with their 3 daughters, Emma E., Mildred M. and Marion E. In 1910 I found this same family: Joseph Townsend 53 W England Philadelphia, Philadelphia Wife Mary Emma 52 Pennsylvania Daughter May Hilles 31 Pennsylvania Son-in-law Edward 34 Pennsylvania Granddaughter Emma Edna 09 Pennsylvania Granddaughter Mildred May 07 Pennsylvania Granddaughter Marion Ethel 01 Pennsylvania In 1930 Emma is a Widow living with her daughter, May Hiller, son in law Edward and two grandchildren Marion and Mildren Also living with them is an Aunt Eva Ashton (District 877 - Sheet 6A). They are at 4416 Wingahocken St. I don't think there were two wives. Emma was Mary Emma. She shows up in one census as Mary and another as Emma. So I think your Joseph (as long as I found the right Joseph) died before 1932.
