    3. On the same census page you have Norris St. I chose 1105 and pulled up a Google map that said it is now 1105 W. Norris St. Perpendicular and abutting W. Norris St. you will find N. Marvine St. Undoubtedly, the census taker misspelled Marvine St. Google Maps will give you a very clear picture of your ancestor's street. 3. Excellent ! That's terrific information. Both of your postings fill in a lot of details - more than I was expecting. Thanks very much for your help - much appreciated. You and other Listers may be interested in a little story about Frederick George Quail. A few years ago, I received an email from someone in Loughborough, Leicestershire, who had moved into a house and was researching its history. He found that a previous occupier had been Herbert Quail, a linen draper in the 19th century. On searching the internet for more information, he came across my name, as my great grandmother's maiden name was Quail, and her grandfather came from Leicestershire. I have been researching the family and was able to tell him quite a lot about it. The interesting thing, for me, was that he said that in a brick on the outside of his house, someone had carved the initials FGQ. Now that's the quirky kind of thing that interests me ! You can keep your coat of arms and noble pedigrees - give me something tangible like a brick in which one of my ancestors has carved his initials and I'm happy ;-) So of course I needed to find out more. It wasn't difficult to guess who the "author" was when I found that Herbert had a son named Frederick George. I was amused when I found out that his profession was bricklayer ! When I also found that he had emigrated to the States, I wondered whether that carving was made to leave something behind in his homeland before embarking on a new future overseas. Or perhaps I'm being a bit too romantic about it. On Thursday, I'm giving a short presentation to our Local History Group, and I will tell them this story. The extra information that I have now received from you will plug what would have been some empty spaces, and I will be sure to tell them how valuable Rootsweb lists are when researching both Family and Local History. Thanks again for your help, Best wishes, Mike -----Original Message----- From: paphilad-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:paphilad-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of clabre1068@aol.com Sent: 14 March 2010 04:39 To: paphilad@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PAPhl] QUAIL family in Philadelphia from 1906 - 1909 Mike, Sarah nee Lacey Quail's obit is online on a pay for view site. 3. Matt, I'm striking out here. I have been able to follow the family up to 1930. They were in a different state every census - 1900 CT; 1910 - NY; 1920 - NJ and 1930- PA. I do see that your uncle Mark was living in Philadelphia in 1942 at the time of the WWII Draft. I also see him on a ships list coming from Germany to PA in August of 1936. At that time he was living at 36 Rodman Avenue, Llanerch, PA. That is in Delaware County, PA. Have you checked for a death record there? What took Christopher to OH and do you know when he went to OH? I see your mother Corinna DeBerri as the informant on Christopher's death certificate. > From: Gruppen@aol.com > Date: Sun, 7 Mar 2010 21:17:04 -0500 > To: paphilad@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [PAPhl] PA Phil. any kind of death info > > > > > Yes that is her in the 1880 census. 2. I am willing to pay $25 to the first person who finds an obituary for Margaret (Foley) McBride b. abt. Jan. 1855 who died, I believe, between 1920-1922 in Philadelphia PA. She is still living in the 1920 Philadelphia PA US census. She was the widow of Michael McBride. She outlived all of her children but she was survived by grandchildren, 2 of whom were living with her at the time of her death. I believe she is buried at New Cathedral Cemetery where several of her children are buried. If you are interested in doing this, contact me FIRST before proceeding with search so no more than one person is doing the research and I will then give you additional information. Thank you.
