Does anyone happen to know if there is a place to search for birth certificates from about 1802 in Philadelphia? Thanks, Trudi
Why, when I do the regular search for Sarah Fox's marriage in Philadelphia in 1891, I can find it at www.familysearch.org, but I cannot find it when I go to the labs? I had already looked and did not find anything. I also looked when pilot family search had listed the Phila. licenses. I have grandparents, Margaret Herbert Butz ( her maiden name in question) and Joseph Lee Sterling, (this is a lock for him). Judging by 1900 census, they were married abt. 1892. Any other way to find out about their marriage with the exception of Philadelphia City Archives? I am in SW Florida and not able to go to Philly. If not, do any of you listers live in Philly and go to Archives @ times? If so, I'd be happy to pay expenses to have copy of this marriage. Doesn't need to be certified....only a copy. I'd be most indebted. Much thanks to this wonderful list. D. Blackwell In a message dated 4/2/2010 12:51:25 P.M. Hi, Betty -- I have had some success using the Family Search Labs website (http://familysearchlabs.com) to locate, and sometimes rule out, dates, places and numbers that were hard to read. If you go to that site and click on "Search Our Record Collections" you can then page down and find "Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Marriage Indexes." Good luck with your search! Marriage License Bureau, City Hall, Philadelphia, PA 19107 What years would this cover? Thanks.
Check the indexes found at www.labs.familysearch.org to find a license number. This will give you the exact year. I'm not sure if you can rent the film for 1892, but the records are filmed up to mid-1915, so it's a good possibility. Good morning, List: I have not been able to find some details to complete my family record of Sarah Fox who married my cousin, George Washington Norris in 1891. Sarah's date of birth was March 10, 1863 and it took place in Pennsylvania (according to the 1900 census). I believe it was in Philadelphia, but I find no concrete evidence of that. As for their marriage, it took place January 10, 1891 or June 10, 1891, but I cannot tell from the handwriting which month is correct. Are there any online or other records available which would answer these two questions? I have searched through the "Philadelphia Inquirer" for the information and have not found it. Thanks for any help, suggestions, etc., Betty Torno St. Louis, MO

Does anyone remember which library in Phila. will look up obituaries for us for a very small fee. Janet
It is the Free Library of Philadelphia -- the public library, for those of you unfamiliar with Phila.'s nomenclature -- at the Central (main) branch. Email Erefnews@library.phila.gov. Hope that helps. Claire On Apr 1, 2010, at 9:05 AM, <jwest21@kc.rr.com> wrote: > Does anyone remember which library in Phila. will look up obituaries for us for a very small fee.

Posting again as I've lost five years of email responses during a computer conversion and don't have record of past responses now. If you think you are related to the woman in this photograph please contact me. I've "rescued" a photograph identified as that of Mrs. Tom OLIVER which was taken at the Lovejoy Studio in Philadelphia, PA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with the woman in the photograph appearing to be in her 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. I am hoping to be able to return the photograph to a member of her family. Thanks, Shelley
