I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the BAUER Family of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The first is identified as that of Jenny BAUER and was taken at the Louis Blaul Studio in Philadelphia. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Jenny appearing to be in her teens or 20's at the time. In addition to her name, someone has also written "Aunt" on the back of the photograph. The second photograph is identified only as "Aunt Lena" though the handwriting on both is the same and the two women appear to be relatives. The second photograph is taken at the same studio with Lena likely in her teens or 20's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family from census records: 1870 census of Philadelphia, PA: Lena BAUER, age 49, a Peddler, born Württemberg Louis BAUER, age 14, at Home, born PA William BAUER, age 10, Attending School, born PA Lena BAUER, age 7, Attending School, born PA Jennie BAUER, age 1, born PA 1880 census of Philadelphia, PA: Lena BAUER, age 58, born Baden, parents born Baden Louis BAUER, son, age 23, a Lawyer, born PA, parents born Baden William BAUER, son, age 20, a Silk Weaver, born PA Lena BAUER Jr., dau, age 16, a Silk Weaver, born PA Chinas BAUER, dau, age 12, at School, born PA 1910 census of Philadelphia, PA: - living in the home of Lena MEGONEGAL Louis BAUER, age 55, born PA, parents born Germany, a Saw Mill Wood Worker Jennie BAUER, age 42, born PA, parents born Germany, a Weaver I am hoping to locate someone from this BAUER Family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their rightful place, with family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
Is anyone researching Michael Alexander Hechler/Heckler, married to Susan Whitaker on Sept. 17, 1903? Had a child 1905-d. by 1910, Mary Jane b. 1907 and George 1916. My interest is to find a death for Mary Jane Hechler/Heckler Hamilton around 1934. Mary Jane married George Boyd Hamilton around 1930. A son was born in June 1931, he was three years old when the mother died. She didn't like doctor's and died of appendicitis. Jane
Hi, Pulled obits from GenBank and narrowed the search on Andrew Hamilton. He was at rear 438 Luray st in 1910. An obit for a daughter Eliz (late Andrew and Harriet Lalor Hamilton) was 1916, so that narrows the death of my Andrew Hamilton to April 1910-1916. 1900 census states he was born May 1848. Hum, perhaps he is with Harriet and her mother in Mt. Vernon Cem.? Perhaps I'll give them a call. Thanks, Jane
Is anyone researching, JAMES LALOR, wife MARY and daughter's Harriet J. and Margaret C.? They immigrated from Ireland in 1868. James died Oct. 27, 1882 Mary died March 18,1886 Harriet J. died April 16, 1886 Margaret married Robert Drummond My real interest is Andrew Hamilton b. 1847, married to Harriet J. (b.1851 - April 16, 1886.) Both Mary and Harriet are buried in Mt. Vernon cemetery. I have both notices and death certificates. So many Andrew Hamilton's it is hard to tell which is mine. He was a brick maker and did die after Harriet. By the census he died 1910-1920. Thanks, Jane
I am working on a family genealogy for a friend and have hit a dead end. I'm looking for help with the John Michael Laughlin family who lived in Camden and Burlington Cos. NJ and in Philadelphia. He was born about Jun 1868 in Pennsylvania (probably Philadephia) and married Susan Marks Reily about 1892. She was born about Jul 1872 also in Pennsylvania. They lived in Philadephia in 1900 and Camden Co. in 1920 They had 4 children John Derringer Laughlin b. Sep 1892. John moved to KY and the name changed to Locke William J. Laughlin b. Feb 1894 may have moved to TX Raymond Louis Laughlin b. 10 Mar 1898 married Evelyn Unknown and he died in 1991. Son Jack. Lived in Camden Co. in the 1920's and 1930's Marion S. Laughlin b. 1 Feb 1901 married Emil Hufschmidt and she died in 1987. Daughter Betty. Lived in Camden Co. in the 1920's and in Burlington Co. in the 1930s I would like to identify the parents of John Micheal and Susan Marks Reily but have had no success finding any records. If anyone has access to marriage or death records that might have any additional info. on these families, I would appreciate any help Thanks Tim Fisher http://www.genealogy3.com (under construction)
Find an Eliz Hamilton buried, Mt. Moriah. She died Sept. 20, 1916. Anyone with the listings, send me the Sec/Plot and who ever else might be with her? Thank you, Jane
I have been looking online for the last half hour and cannot find where to call and order a will from the 1700s in Philadelphia. The page for the archives does not talk about wills at all (only death records). The Orphans Court page does not mention wills. The Will page tells you all about wills and why you would need one. All I want is the phone number so I can call and order the copy. Oh, and the web page would be nice, in case I have to go back to it at some time. Does anyone have this? Thanks - Lynn

There are no official birth records in Philadelphia before 1850. It is possible that there may be a baptismal record at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. You may also be able to find him in the 1850 and/or 1860 censuses. However, his military record is probably the best that you can do. Thanks to everyone for your help on my Houseal/Myers marriage issue. I just received their marriage certificate from New Jersey! I never would have thought to go there if it hadn't been for some of you finding Rev. Lyon in New Jersey. The cert has both of their mothers' maiden names, so it finally proves connections that were only conjecture before. Thanks, thanks, thanks! Helene
If anyone is researching early Davis families in Philadelphia, I would like to hear from you. Specifically, I am trying to identify Ann R Davis born in or near Philadelphia in 1812, who married Paul Conard of Tredyffrin, Chester County. Ann and Paul lived and raised their family in Frankford. After Paul's death, Ann resided with a Conard relative and died in 1897 Camden, NJ. I am hoping to learn who Ann's parents might possibly be. Thank you for any leads you might have. Penny
For starters, if Spencer was at Girard College, his father was dead. That was required for admission. (My brother went there.) And students were admitted between the ages of 6 and 10, which gives you some idea of when the death had to have happened by. Good luck. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as that of Spencer Wilbur MEGONEGAL which was taken at the Geissinger Studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Spencer 4 months old at the time. In addition to this name, someone has written "This is Lena's 3rd Son, 25lbs weight when only 4 months old" and "He is a Pudd" and "his name is" on the back of the photograph. Yeah, I have pretty carefully vetted the Philadelphia marriage registers - both in online index searches and by reading them page by page on microfilm. I think it's safe to say they weren't registered in Philadelphia. I'm heading (virtually) to New Jersey! This doesn't seem to be the case here because I checked familysearch.com for all Blanches married in 1895 and came up with nothing that is similar to the groom. The only way I found mine was getting the marriage license number from the Catholic Church which was still in existence. Sorry to be of no help.
I missed this thread. Dawson Yerkes was a Justice of Peace who married lot of West End Phila. couples. He was in Millbourne, a tiny borough just east of 69th St. in Upper Darby. The subway-el had/has a stop at Millbourne and then onto 69th St. Terminal. I remember it well!
