anyone know why I can get on rootsweb mailing lists?
I haven't been able to access list archives (various lists) for maybe a week or more. Error messages I was getting indicated server unavailable. Server changes... now it makes sense. Probably they will have to update their links before all of the list archives come back up. Thanks; makes sense now! Lorri, do you mean you CAN'T get on mailing lists? But your email came through, so you ARE on the mailing list. Are you trying to join another list? Search the archives? Get to some other part of RootsWeb? If you can clarify what problem you're having, maybe someone can tell you what the issue is. Shelley, it sounds like you're having trouble accessing some parts of the RootsWeb site (freepages? List archives? Databases?). Ancestry announced some time ago that they're migrating some parts of RootsWeb to new, upgraded servers. I'm not sure if that's the problem you're experiencing because you didn't say what part of RootsWeb you were having trouble with. I hope that helps, at least. If either of you wants to offer more specifics of the problem you're having, maybe someone will be able to give you a more definitive answer. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the MCCREIGHT Family of Pennsylvania. The first is one of Robert MCCREIGHT Jr. which was taken at the Hurst Studio in Philadelphia, PA and dated 15 Jan 1894 with Robert just an infant at the time. The second photograph is of Robert's Grandmother MCCREIGHT who I believe to be Letitia MCCREIGHT. This photograph was taken at the Horning Studio in Philadelphia, PA sometime in the 1890's with Letitia appearing to be in her 60's at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Letitia MCGARIGLE was b. Nov 1834 to parents Robert MCGARIGLE (b. 1810) and Anna MCGARIGLE (b. 1815). Letitia was one of 4 children born to this couple including, Letitia; Charles; William; and Catharine "Kate" Lowery MCGARIGLE or MCGARRIGLE, born between 1834 and 1852. Letitia married Charles MCCREIGHT (1836-1864 or 65) and she died 19 Nov 1902 in Philadelphia, PA and is buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. Letitia and Charles had two children, Letitia (1859-1891) and Robert MCCREIGHT (1861-1940). Robert MCCREIGHT Jr. was b. 21 Jun 1893 in Philadelphia, PA to parents Robert MCCREIGHT (1861-1940) and Martha Elliott or Elliot SMALLEY (b. 22 Jun 1865 in Philadelphia, PA - d. 1915) and he died 21 Apr 1988 in Jenkintown, PA and is also buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. Robert was one of three children born to this couple including, Robert; Lettie; and Martha MCCREIGHT, all born between 1893 and 1908. Robert Jr. was married to Ruth Lange HESS (d. 2001). Census records provide the following details regarding this family: 1900 census of Philadelphia, PA: Robert MCCREIGHT, age 38, born Oct 1861, married 8 years, born PA, parents born Scotland/PA, a Physician Martha MCCREIGHT, wife, age 34, born Jun 1865, married 8 years, 2 children/2 living, born PA, parents born PA Robert MCCREIGHT, son, age 6, born Jun 1893, born PA Lettie MCCREIGHT, dau, age 1, born Feb 1899, born PA Letetia MCCREIGHT, mother, age 65, born Nov 1834, married 40 years, 2 children/1 living, born PA, parents born PA + 1 Servant 1910 census of Philadelphia, PA: Robert MCCREIGHT, age 48, born PA, parents born PA, a Physician Martha MCCREIGHT, wife, age 44, married 18 years, 3 children/3 living, born PA, parents born PA Robert MCCREIGHT, son, age 16, born PA Lettie MCCREIGHT, dau, age 10, born PA Martha MCCREIGHT, dau, age 2, born PA + 1 Servant 1920 census of Philadelphia, PA: Dr. Robert MCCREIGHT, age 57, a widower, born PA, parents born PA, a Doctor Robert MCCREIGHT Jr., son, age 26, born PA, parents born PA, a Draftsman Lettie MCCREIGHT, dau, age 19, born PA, parents born PA Martha MCCREIGHT, dau, age 12, born PA, parents born PA 1930 census of Philadelphia, PA: Robert MCCREIGHT, age 65, a widower, born PA, parents born PA, a Medical Doctor Robert MCCREIGHT Jr., son, age 36, born PA, parents born PA, a Measurements Engineer Lettie MCCREIGHT, dau, age 30, born PA, parents born PA, a Public School Teacher Martha MCCREIGHT, dau, age 22, born PA, parents born PA, a Public School Teacher + 1 Servant 1940 census of Cheltenham, PA: Robert MCCREIGHT Jr, age 46, born PA, parents born Philadelphia, PA/PA, a Scientific Instrument Engineer Ruth MCCREIFGHT, wife, age 39, born NY, parents born NY I am hoping to be able to return the photographs to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are member of this family, or you know someone who might be. This wonderful list should be able to help me! I am trying very hard to help a nephew of a beloved aunt we share. Dear Aunt Bertha Mendelson McCormick (married to my Uncle Leonard) had a sad story. Her parents were Harry and Mary Jane LOGAN MENDELSON. Mary Jane's Irish parents disowned her when she married outside her faith. I know her parents were John and Mary -?-LOGAN both born Ireland. Mary Jane was born in 1864 in Philadelphia. A brother John born in 1860 remained with her. Here's the cemetery question.... John LOGAN is buried at Mount Moriah cemetery. His death certificate has a notation....PRIVILEGED BURIAL. Can anyone tell me what that means? I am not finding John or Mary Jane in 1870 census and was hoping this record would lead somewhere! I would love to help my "sort of cousin" find his Irish roots! We both loved our Aunt Bertha. Fond regards to all of you Phila Roots members! Anyone know the veracity of this? John TALLMAN, husband of Elizabeth SNYDER, was the son of Jeremiah TALLMAN and Sarah MANSFIELD of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania? According to a family tree on Ancestry, this John TALLMAN died on April 26, 1860 in Frankford, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. What evidence is there that John of Frankford is their son? http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ricktallman&id=I79148 Aaron Hill Seattle
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Lottie ASP which was taken at the J. S. Lundgren Studio in Kane, PA sometime in the 1890's or early 1900's. Lottie appears to be in her 30's at the time. In addition to her name, someone has written "partner of Lottie DIZER or DIGER or SIZER or SIGER (cannot tell for sure) in Dressmaking Business" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I believe that this is a photograph of Hanna or Hannah Charlotta ASP who married Alfred JOHNSON (b. 6 Jul 1873 in Sweden) in Kane, PA on 14 Jun 1905. She is noted as having been born in Sweden on 11 Feb 1869. Her husband was living in Philadelphia, PA at the time of their marriage and listed his occupation as Electrician. She died in 1947 and is buried in the Mount Tabor Cemetery in Kane, PA. I am hoping to locate someone from Lottie's family so that this beautiful old photograph can be returned to the care of her family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
I believe RootsWeb is still working to recover from the recent outage and restore all content that possibly can be restored. Efforts also continue to improve the hardware that RootsWeb operates on so that this type of problem won't occur in the future. The issues are not on YOUR end.
