    1. [PAPhl] Old Almanacs
    2. Larry B.
    3. I have several old Bulletin Almanacs dating from 1951 to 1976 that I am willing to sell as a complete lot. (No individual copy sales, please). They would be of remarkable genealogical value to those doing research of old Philadelphia. I also have several Philadelphia Times, Philadelphia Record and Philadelphia Inquirer almanacs from the 1882 - 1901 time periods. I would be willing to sell single copies of these. Contact me if interested. Larry B.

    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Mae CHICHESTER SMITH of Cairo, NY. 3. Another method that I sometimes use is a search engine, such as Google. I type in whatever I know and search. For example, using quotation marks keeps words together. A lot of census material is just out there without having to search proprietary databases. There's tons of information out there. http://www.censusfinder.com/ <http://www.censusfinder.com/>http://us-census.mooseroots.com/d/b/Geneva-Darling Also, I search just the books or scholarly articles to see what pops up. http://books.google.com/ http://scholar.google.com/ Here are two searches on my great-great grandfather. http://www.google.com/#hl=en&tbm=bks&q=%22j.+h.+darling%22+iowa http://www.google.com/#hl=en&tbm=bks&q=%22j.+h.+darling%22+%22south+dakota%22 This method help locate his father's birthplace in New York. His grandfather was recorded having settled a farm and someone passed that information on. I wrote about it on my blog. http://aaronjhill.wordpress.com/2016/08/24/birthplace-canadice-ontariocounty-newyork-ancestors-genealogy/ <https://aaronjhill.wordpress.com/2016/08/24/birthplace-canadice-ontariocounty-newyork-ancestors-genealogy/>Google is a good method of searching newspapers, too. Just discovered a family reunion held in 1931. http://aaronjhill.wordpress.com/2016/08/24/i-wonder-if-my-greatuncle-remembers-this-a-familyreunion-in-1931-he-was-15-at-the-time-now-101/ Tips on using Google. http://searchengineland.com/guide/how-to-use-google-to-search Aaron Hill Seattle

    3. Yes, I have the 1940 census showing she was a patient at the institution; also the 1920 and 1930 censuses, so she was a long-time resident. I also have her 1944 death certificate, stating she died of cerebral hemorrhage, with other conditions being schizophrenia, paranoid type, and that she had been a patient there for over 31 years. It appears she was committed circa 1913. Since the death certificate listed the mental illness by name, I did not follow up with the institution. She died at the institution, but was brought home to be buried in Delaware by her family. Thanks for your interest. 3. I tried to get just a birth date for a cousin who is deceased, but had been in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Washington, D.C., but they said they could not give it to me. And that had nothing to do with her mental state. 3. I tried some years ago to obtain records on a great aunt who was committed to a psychiatric institution in Maryland. I was not successful; the institution cited HIPAA, even though she died in the 1940's. For more information on HIPAA, go to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_Insurance_Portability_and_Accountability_Act or http://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/ For genealogical legal interpretations, see: http://www.legalgenealogist.com/2012/02/09/getting-hip-on-hipaa/ and http://www.legalgenealogist.com/2013/04/08/breakthrough-for-medical-genealogy/ . For genealogical requests for psychiactric institutions, see: http://www.asylumprojects.org/index.php?title=Asylum_Projects_Genealogical_Requests Start by contacting the Institution directly and see how they respond. 3. This all "intrigues" me. I am working on my Waughtel family genealogy and many were in/from Pennsylvania. One lady was institutionalized prox 1905 (I'm guessing as I don't have the notebook out) but died there after 1940 - she was in all the census records as being there during that time frame. BUT they had a child (supposedly) in 1925 evidently dying young - I'll have to check my records on this also - I have pictures of the grave markers - other than the grave marker I can find nothing else on this child, a son. Thank you for your patience with me - Antoinette On Sat, Aug 13, 2016 at 9:41 AM, Karen Moore <[email protected]> wrote: > Yes, I have the 1940 census showing she was a patient at the institution; > also the 1920 and 1930 censuses, so she was a long-time resident. 3. When I stated I received copies of many pages from the institution in Indiana, one being her admittance record and stating she died there - no other record has been found to date, and they refuse to admit she is buried there - she died there in 1889 so times have changed - although they do vary from state to state. One thing though have you found her on the 1940 census. Was she there, or was she still at home?
