I presume there is no longer a Danish Lutheran Synod. I know you kindly sent me a list, but this disorganized soul can't find it. According to the ELCA 2006 directory, the only St. John's in Philadelphia is the one at Tyson and Hawthorne........ Lutherans being the odd sort they are, they don't list other synods anywhere. I know there is still a Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod and a Wisconsin Synod. Never head of a Danish Lutheran Synod. Sorry I can't be more help. Sandy" Since she is a member of the church at Tyson and Hawthorne, I presume this is as good as you are going to get in terms of a current St John's. I don't remember hearing of a Danish United Synod either, but then I was raised German Reformed. If I hear of another St John's I will let you know. 1. Re: [PAPHL] Re: Chester and Phila. Counties
    2. Chester County was not formed from Philadelphia. The three original counties, established in 1682 by William Penn, were Bucks, Philadelphia and Chester. At no time was eastern PA all Philadelphia. You should not post misinformation. There was an Oxford Twp. in Philadelphia County until 1854 when it was consolidated with the other townships, districts and boroughs into the present City and County of Philadelphia.

Does anyone know of any military service that might apply to this time period? I am seeking information on his parents, siblings, etc. Thank you, Donna Cuillard I believe that in 1848. Oxford Township, Chester County might still have been part of Philadelphia County. You'd have to look and see when they split up the counties. At one point, most of eastern Penna. was part of Philadelphia COUNTY. which used to be different that the boundaries of the city. That was revised somewhere along the line but god help me, I can't remember when. So check that possibility out too. _Beth Cherkowsky Researching Bradley, Forrester/Forrestal, Donohue, Boylan, Manning, McHugh, Cormac, Manning, Fountas, Czerkaukus, Liaundanskas, in Ireland, Russia/Lithuania, Greece, Scotland and the USA._ (http://members.aol.com/cougartoys/alley.html)

From hints of where to look, i.e., church records, census, town records, etc. You can also get info on the holdings of the church, Microfilm, Microfiech, books etc. These can be ordered from the Family History Center near you, you go to the center (THEY NEVER ASK IF YOU'D LIKE TO BECOME A MEMBER - CAPALIZED, NOT YELLED, SO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN). Ordering the film, etc costs under $5.00 where a trip, to Arkansas - where I need info from now - costs considerably more. I live in the Philadelphia, PA area, father's family comes from Wilmington, DE.....yea, I know, just 50 miles down I-95. The nearest LDS FHC is about 5 miles away. Visited Wilmington many times, found nothing. Gave LDS a chance, and what did I get? My long lost grand father as well as his parents and the church that the whole family went to from 1870 thru present. Well worth the cost of renting the Microfilm as well as the time (2 hours) that I put in. So, don't sell the LDS site short, there's info there, if you are willing to look for it. They also have access to Ancestry.com (free). Kate Pitluck P S have been into genealogy since 1975, and I am a volunteer. Need info from the Phila area? I'll try to get it for you. 3. I am looking for information on this family. Johann Adam Appel and his father Thomas arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Ranier in 1749. They lived in Pennsylvania before they moved to North Carolina. By 1783 Johann Adam Appel bought land from the State of North Carolina in Guilford County. Specifically - what was Johann Adam Appel's wife's name? (Probably married mid 1760s). Also: Where did his Father, Thomas, die and when (probably mid 1760s)? I have been unable to locate a marriage record for him or a birth/baptism record for his children listed below in bold type. Their places of birth are not verified. The family was probably Lutheran. I have been fortunate enough, with the help of other Appel researchers (notably Mike Reeb) to find and translate documents on his ancestry to the early 17th Century in Germany! I am including that ancestry here, should there be anyone else researching this family (I can certainly provide copies of the documentation to anyone interested). Learning Old German Script is certainly a challenge, but it can be done! I have found that the Script from some parts of Germany is much more difficult to read than the Script from other parts. I worked on this several years ago so am quite rusty now (use it or loose it!). Thanks again to anyone willing to help. 1. City Directory Look-Up - Hallman
    2. Dori
    3. Hell0 Everyone, Would someone please do a look-up for me in the Phila. City Directory for William G. HALLMAN. I know he was a cigar maker in Phila. in 1870 (Ward 20) as well as in 1880. According to census info (I don't have the actual images) he would have been b. abt. 1844 in PA, m. to Salena (?KRAUS?), b. abt. 1839 or 1847 in PA and had 4 Children. That's about the only info I have on him. Thanks for the Help ~ Dori

    1. Re: [PAPHL] research sites
    2. This is a very subjective question. We each like different things, but the fact is that genealogy is a very expensive hobby unless you live in the city where your ancestors lived. Even then, getting various records can be quite costly, like a $30 marriage certificate. Good luck. There are a lot of on-line fee based research services out there and as I am retired and on very limited income I would like to poll other researchers as to their opinion where one would get the most "BANG" for their dollar. Any and all advise will be most appreciated.
