I have a perplexing question and would appreciate any help I can get. My GGGrandparents Peter and Katherine Cannon were shown in the 1860 census as living in Lancaster County, my Great Grand father Luke Cannon was born in about 1865, now when I go to the 1870 census my Great Grandfather Luke Cannon along with his brothers is shown as living in Philadelphia with his mother Katherine, who is living with a person named John McCauley. In the 1880 census Luke and his brothers are listed as "Stepsons" of John and Katherine Mc Cauley. My GGGrandfather Peter was still alive in 1880, in fact he didn't die until 1894. He is buried at St. .Dennis Cemetery in Havertown. Katherine is no where to be found. Therefore it appears that Peter and Katherine split sometime between 1865 and 1870, I have had checked the limited divorce records of Lancaster County, and Chester County to no avail. When up in Phila. a few months ago paid a visit to the Philadelphia Archives, but wasn't able to fin! d anything. Does anyone have any thoughts as to where I should look next ?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Philip Dreger (Philly ex-pat) Gulf Shores, Al.

Does anyone have information about the family of John and Dorothy Dawson who settled in Moreham township, Philadelphia (now Montgomery) in 1710. Their children were: John, Ann, Daniel, Sarah, Isaac, Benjamin and James (?). I am trying to find a possible link to an Edward Dawson family in Northumberland County circa 1800 or before. Thanks so much. Natalie ndburrows@verizon.net
Holly, Once you have established a date of death you can send for an obit at the Free Library of Philly. But you have to have the date of death first. You might try a search for a death record at the City of Phil. Archives. once you can narrow it down to 5-10 years. Here is the Free Library info for future reference: Send a written request with the person's name, date of death (month, day, year) or burial date and a stamped self-addressed envelope. We will only check two newspapers. The cost of photocopying from microfilm is 50 cents per page with a $1.00 minimum. Maximum of 2 obituaries can be requested at one time. This kind of reply [when a widow gives number of years married] often is the number of years since she was married which gives you ca 1872 in this situation. Unfortuantely, it does not really give you an indication of when her husband may have died. At 09:47 PM 2/8/2006 -0800, you wrote: >Seeking death information on John Black, married to Jenny. Seeking death information on John Black, married to Jenny. They were on the 1880 census together. She is a widow on the 1900 census and she indicated that she had been married 28 years. From the approximate year of birth of her first child (about 1872) this would indicate that he was still alive in the late 1890s but must have died just prior to the 1900 census. Any help finding his date of death will be appreciated, also an obituary. Thanks. Michele Go Seahawks...next year maybe?!
The 1910 Miracode is a text only database available only for Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, and does not include images of the Miracode. Ancestry does have the entire 1910 census online as images so once you locate someone in the 1910 Miracode you can then locate them in the actual census images. Go to the front page, choose "See all databases", then "Census" (not US Census), and you'll see the entire list including the Pennsylvania 1910 Miracode. ----- Original Message ----- :I am trying to find the Penn. 1910 Miracode on ancestry, but it does : not seem to be listed among their databases, although I know they sell : the CD.
Paul, What is a Miracode ? I have Ancestry and I think I was in that the other day but don't know how I got there or what info it gave me. I remember a different page other than the 1910 census. I should have sent this first to the Philadelphia website since this is where the Dawson family undoubtedly originated. I would like to find the first Dawsons. Can anyone help? Thanks so much.
