    3. If you know he died in a VA hospital have you tried contacting your local VA for help? While trying to reconstruct some military records that were destroyed in the archived records fire I discovered that if a veteran has been treated in a VA hospital they likely will have copies of his service records. I was lucky in that the records that could not be offered by the archives could be supplied by the VA. Good Luck, Susan McIntyre > >In a message dated 2/11/2006 10:05:43 PM Eastern Standard Time, >eile@comcast.net writes: > >I am finally after getting a relative's 1957 death cert, and it gives the social. > >My plan had been to use the social to locate him in the military's >records, since he died in a VA hospital. > >The problem: Putting his social into the social sec. death index >brings up a different man's name. > >Now I am stumped. > >Any ideas? 1. PA Scheetz family before moving to Philly
    2. Jim Cullen
    3. Most of my families remained in the Philadelphia area. There is one line that I have not been able to make any progress on. I found them on the 1910 census living in Philadelphia but have not been able to find them on the 1900 census. I suspect that they may have been living in one of the outlining counties of Philadelphia (Montgomery, Berks, Bucks). If I take 10 years off of the 1910 census dates I would be looking for: In 1900 they would be: George W. Scheetz, Husband 42 (most likely from Germany) Mary E. Scheetz, Wife 44 (most likely from PA) Ethel Scheetz, Daughter 10 Lawrence Scheetz, Son 2 Anyone connect or relate to this family? Thanks, Jim Cullen http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jimcullen/

    2. Dear Anne How kind of you - I have never been so embarrassed in my life to find that I had sent my letter to the list rather than the PFL - I do hope all the readers will please ignore my stupidity, delete my message and accept my apologies. In future I will be more aware of what I am doing. Eileen

    3. I will call the SSA and see if they can help me locate the social, since the 1957 death cert is apparently wrong, and the SSDI does not have him listed. Thanks for all the help. Paul

    3. Nothing comes up when you put in his name ? You may have to contact the SS administration.and inquire there. Do you know the funeral director ? sometimes they have that info too. Just throwing out suggestions that I have used. What exactly do you want to find. Obviously you have a problem with the SS # not being correct so that needs to be addressed and that's why I suggested the SS Adm. Maybe they could direct you. Paul Paul- In all probability someone who died in 1957 won't be included in the SSDI listings because the SS records were not digitized at that time. Some were added later on but most don't appear in the SSDI. My guess is that there is a typo in the SS number on the Death Cert. or the person supplying the death info had the wrong number, if you are finding someone else listed in the SSDI with that number. You can try contacting SSA to see if they have the SS5 info for the person who died in 1957 even if you do not have the correct SS number. Joan
