Jim, The church was located at 34th and Haverford ave in 1921 (see City Directory entry below). Don't know anything about it's present status but the Philadelphia Baptist Association can probably help you out. Contact info also below. Have you done an Internet search on Yahoo or Google or some other service? Most church records are not on-line. Sndtenterprises Genealogical and Historical Research
Looking at an orbit in the 1921 timeframe and it mentions that members of the 34th St. Baptist church were invited to the funeral. Anyone know about this church? Is it still in existence? If not, were records moved to a Baptist church archive somewhere? Would like to find info on the relative and his family that attended this church if the records exist. Thanks, Jim Cullen http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jimcullen/
Hello - Please can someone tell me, is there an on-line source for Records of the Phila. First Ref. Church, I am seeking information abt. a Marriage that occurred Mar. 29, 1829 between a MATTHIAS EDEL and ANN DENING.. I viewed a film at my FHC for this Church and it ended 1828, and stated that the Chruch had moved to another location , I couldn't find another film listing for after that date.... Thanks, Sally
There had been some talk earlier about whether or not the 1910 PA miracode on ancestry.com had images. Ancestry today confirmed that they have no images for this. Paul
Hello, I would like to subscribe to the list mentioned below. Can you help me please? Thanks, Helen S. While I don't mind the original question being asked about hiring a professional genealogist in the Philadelphia area, I think it best if the responses are sent off-list to the poster. I understand that a recommendation in favor of a specific researcher isn't direct advertising--and I don't really mind that -- it is just that discussion can stray into unfavorable comments about individuals and I don't feel that part belongs on the list. Lorraine, A professional I hired found nothing - which is not the problem. The trouble was she sent me copies of records which I had already seen and told her about I had looked at and eliminated. Someone in our genealogy society here told me that was a common problem. Surely they are not all the same but be forewarned! Diane in CO In a message dated 2/15/2006 1:15:54 P.M. HI, There is a stick point on all lines. However, the one I'm writing about is my gggrandfather. Born about 1826 in Delaware (exactly where?? parents??) in Philadelphia by 1847 when son born. I have 1860 death notice of 1st wife, his civil war military and pension records, census 1850 through 1880, his 1886 death certificate and death notice. Where and when born? parents? Date and Place of 1st marriage? Date and place of 2nd marriage? What happened to two sons who disappear between 1860 and 1870 (too young to serve in civil war) When and why did he move to Philadelphia (he was a cordwainer) How's that for a start? With the warning that the information I am sharing was found almost 7 years ago and may have changed.... 1) I stumbled across a site for the "National Help Desk" 1-888-596-4357 - 2) I was advised to send a message to a government email address they provided. 3) A representative responded the next day with the explanation that the Records Center in St. Louis is not a VA facility - it belongs to the NARA. Using the scant information I had to offer (name, rank, service number, station in 1952) and the additional notation from St. Louis that "documents requested may have been sent to the Dept. of Veterans Affairs - refer to claim #_____" they ran it across VA electronic records and found my veteran listed. 4) I replied to their email - thanking them and asking if the VA electronic records they referred to were available to the public and if so could I obtain copies. They informed me that the electronic records are "screen shots" of info. from a master file of veterans who have applied for benefits. My veteran's file showed that there was a paper file which was retired to a Federal Archives Records Center (FARC) and issued number_____. They also supplied me with a storage number for those records and advised me to contact the VA regional office that serves my area for copies (request should include all info. including VA file #, FARC location # and FARC file #). Address can be found - http://www.vba.va.gov/benefits/ROcontacts.htm from the main site - http://www.vba.va.gov/benefits/address.htm 5) I wrote (snail mail) to the VA Regional Office in my area requesting the records of two deceased Army veterans (even though the veterans had not been residents of my area). I listed as much personal information as I had available in my request and was rewarded with more records than I had dared hope for. So you still have some work ahead of you - hope that all the connections are still available. If not, I'm sure that some office in the VA should be able to help - they were very kind and helpful when I needed them and it was truly appreciated! eile wrote: > > The VA has refused to even search for his name.
