Looking for information on John NICHOLSON who was a partner with Robert MORRIS in Pennsylvania in the late 1700's. Robert MORRIS was the famous financier of the Revolutionary War. John NICHOLSON was a one-time partner who ended up defrauding many out of thousands/millions? of acres of land and died in debtor's prison in 1800. He was married to Hannah DUNCAN. Can anyone tell me anything about NICHOLSON'S family genealogy or anything about him such as where he came from, where he lived (I'm assuming Philadelphia.) etc. Thanks! Anne
Thanks to the help of a kind lister, I learned the maiden name of Anna, wife of William REISINGER. It appears the spelling should be RESINGER, and he married Anna SCHUM, which appears to be spelled Schum and Schrum in the indexes (that handwriting can be tough to decipher at times). William and Anna married in 1908 in Philadelphia. William was born 20 Dec 1889 to William A. RESINGER and Nettie; he doesn't appear in Philadelphia until 1910 according to census reports, showing up in Venango County in 1900. Anna was born on 22 Aug 1891 in Philadelphia to Harry SCHUM and his wife Jennie. To the best of my knowledge, they both died in Philadelphia, but I don't yet have death dates so haven't searched out death records yet. If you connect to this line, I'd love to hear from you.
Hello all. I was feeling pretty good about my most recent find until I came home from researching and realized I had the wrong Charles HARVEY. "My" Charles was born in August 1880, so back to searching out that birth. In the meantime, in the hopes this helps someone else, here is what I learned today using the Philadelphia Birth Index, Registration of Births, and Gospill's 1882 city directory because I wasn't clear on the names: 1881 Birth Index: January birth for Charles Harvey is on page 127 of the register According to the register, page 127, Charles Harvey was born to Unie and Neal Harvey, residing on 4202 Market. The directory confirms the address of Neil Harvey, who is a laborer.

I would (1) search the web and (2) ask a lawyer friend or a law library to search the case law online for his name. He has a relatively uncommon name and you may be able to pinpoint his practice location and dates by publications that mention him as an advocate. I have had poor success with Bar Association records. The courts often handled admissions directly in that era, most states had no bar associations. The Philadelphia Bar Association. There is probably a Web page. Sndtenterprises Genealogical and Historical Research
Family records indicate that Thomas Sinexon, Jr. was a lawyer. He was born in 1830 so he would have been studying law around 1850 or so. Where might I find under whom he read law, and where might I look to find when he was admitted to the bar? Olga

Looking for location and/or church affiliation of the Rev. Joseph Kennard. Cir. 1865, Phila./New Jersey/Del. area. Thanks in advance for the help. Jim, A voice from the Arizona desert
Yes, that is something to consider that even William may not be her father. I thought because of the age difference between William and Mary Ann, that Mary Ann may be a step mother (and then there are all those younger children in the household with Emma listed at 18...although I think she was more like 15). Probably need to work on a death certificate for her at this point! Thanks for the input. I really had not considered that William may not be her father.

I can find her family in 1870 in 53rd dist., ward 18. Can anyone tell me how this translates to the 1860 census? I have searched by name every which-way, and now I am thinking that I will need to start looking page by page, but Philadelphia is so HUGE! Her name is Emma Dickson (and I have checked everything from Dixon, Dickinson, Nickson and beyond...). Her age in 1870 is 18, but I think she was really born in 1855. Her father is Wm H. Dickson, age 39 in 1870. Both born in Pennsylvania). There is a woman named Mary Ann age 28, relationship unknown (too young to be Emma's mother, too old to be Wm's sister, could be a step-mother to Emma?) I am hoping that the 1860 census might have some info on Emma's mother. Thanks for the help!! Janet Janet- When I first replied to this I didn't notice that you said the parents' names are Wm. H. and Mary Ann (poss. step mother). So I rechecked the 1860 census and looked at the family you mentioned in the 1870 census and I came away wondering if William is really Emma's father or possibly and uncle or brother. The closest I came to possibly finding Emma is 1860 would be the following listing on page 118 in the 18th Ward of Philadelphia: Household Members:NameAge John Dickson38 -born Ireland Emeline Dickson35 - born Ireland William Dickson18 - born Penn. John Dickson15 -born Penn. Emeline Dickson5 - born Penn. George Dickson3 - born Penn. Mary Dickson6.12 - born Penn. Henry Munford25 -born Penn. William Wiggels27 - born Penn. Elizth Miller19 - born Penn. Could John and Emeline actually be Emeline/Emma's parents? Joan
