    2. They were far from each other. Lower Dublin was in what is now the middle Northeast Philadelphia, could be 10 miles from Spring Garden and maybe another toe to Pine Ward. If you look at your map of Philadelphia, Cottman Ave. is the southern border of Lower Dublin and Poplar St. is the northern border of the Spring Garden District and Spruce St. was the northern border of Pine War, which bordered the Delaware River. 2. Hello to all on the list..... a question......my grandfather was killed in a car accident in 1952 in Philadelphia. i have the date, time, location and a very brief newspaper article on the incident. I am wondering if there is a way to obtain a copy of the police incident report or any other pertinent information about the acident? Would I contact the police dept, city archives or what? I know this one will be difficult, but I also know that this kind of information can be obtained if you get to the correct place. Is this a '"freedom of information act" type of request? Any thoughts on where to begin would be great.... have a great day! Joe Hunter, NJ

    3. The only Island I know of is an avenue very far south in Philadelphia, next to the airport. There are no normally used islands in Philadelphia, with the possible exception of Hog Island, where I think there used to be a shipbuilding facility. The problem with my explanation is that there were a lot of name changes to streets in Philadelphia in the 1880's and 90's, to eliminate duplicate names. The City and County got the same boundaries about 1854, which resulted in duplicate street names like "Mill" because of the different little settlements in the county that had been built up. The Post Office or somebody forced removal of a great many of the duplicate names. So there may have been another Island Street or Avenue or Road, though I seriously doubt it. I don't know of any settlements with the word "Island" in them, either. 1. RE: RESEARCING CHRISTIAN SCHNEYDER OF PHILADELPHIA - Cemetery Records?
    2. Patricia Armstrong
    3. Hi, In the past few months, I've had very good success in researching Christian Schneyder of Philadelphia. I've received some city directory information from the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and, using an LDS microfilm, have found many family records from the First Reformed Church of Philadelphia, where Christian was living when he died [Sassafras/Race St.] Does anyone know which cemetery was used by that congregation? There is a reference to "the cemetery" on the microfilm, but the church is/was in Old Philadelphia and they moved to another location before returning to the original site. There were some Schneiders registered with the Upper Germantown Burying-Ground when it was new and in 1776, but it's impossible to know whether they belonged to the same family. Thanks. Pat

    3. Hi all and thank you for the help My nearest LDS is over 30 miles away!! I had looked at their site and nothing came up. I had put his name in a search engine and that is how I came up with his travels to USA and the ship information. :) I didn't know if there was anything on line instead of me traveling as it is quite a way for me to go. I will get in touch with the library and see if they can help me. Again thanks and kind regards to all Berenice in Scotland

    3. You must be in Philadelphia. Do you know if there is a Luthern or German Luthern Church office / Headquarters in town? 1. Where to find death records?
    2. Berenice Graham
    3. Hhi List This is the first time that I have mailed here, though I have been watching the list for a while. I do hope that someone can help me please. I have an ancestor named GEORGE LINKLATER born: 18 Sept 1874, Sandwick, Orkney, Scotland, who went to Phili in 1901 but died there 6 Jun 1902 He sailed on the Lucania from Liverpool 2nd November 1901 and arrived at New York, 9th November 1901. He is down as an Electrician in the 1901 census while he was with his Uncle George Taylor in Glasgow. He has an inscription on the family gravestone in Orkney but the don't say exactly where he died. ie: town, area etc. Could someone point me in the right direction to get this information please? I am also in Scotland so don't know how to go about getting records from the USA. Thank you for your time Berenice

    3. There is an e-mail address. The response to my e-mailed questions has sometimes come from the City Archivist, himself, which may speak to limited budget and staff. With the number of people doing family research, the Philly Archives may be overwhelmed with requests. They do have a lot of very good information.
