    2. You are right about Sebastian and Nicolaus. I have their records from a descendant of theirs but she didn't go far enough for me to trace my line. I have the Lancaster County U.S. Census of 1860 showing a Joseph Gehringer, age 30, from Baden, wife named Charlotte, age 34, Darmstatch, with a Florina Shaule, age 12, whom I have no idea who it is. Joseph is supposedly my great grandfather but I can't connect either going back or forward. He could be the son of William & Elizabeth Snyder. I don't want to burden you with all my research problems. Thanks once more.

    3. This seems to have been the time when patronyms were converting to surnames, however. David Thomas's will is filed under "T." His sons' wills (ie Samson Davis) are filed under "D." I have traced from Samson Davis onwards but would like to learn more about David (ap) Thomas. Where did he come from in Wales? Are his parents known? Did he come to PA with siblings? When did he come? Any help? Thanks! Natalie ndburrows@verizon.net P.S. The family of David Thomas's son John Davis has been well researched and also shows the change from (ap) Thomas to Davis. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Sndtenterprises@aol.com> To: <PAPHILAD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2006 1:38 PM Subject: Re: [PAPHL] Davis and Thomas families of Philadelphia County, 18th century > Thomas was not a surname. 3. Thank you for the information below, but....unfortunately my ABRAHAM KUHN/KOON/KOEN died then. He was already in his 50's when he came immigrated to Philadelphia. I cannot find anything out about this family of 6 after they arrived. Where would I find death records after 1722 and before the date provided on film for German immigrants? I appreciate your time and energy. 3. I probably wasn't clear, Wanda. Sorry. David Thomas died in Phila. Co. in 1718. His will names Thomas, Richard David, Samson David, John David, Catherine, Anne (Evans), Gwen and Mary. All the sons except Thomas used the Davis surname thereafter. Thomas died without children so the Thomas surname died out entirely, at least with this particular family. Thanks again for any help from anyone. 2. Robert J. AIREY died on 5 June 1930 and was buried in Mount Moriah Cemetery. I have been unable to find when his wife Anna Dinklocker AIREY died (sometime during/after 1934), but presume she was buried next to Robert. Is anyone available to see if in fact Anna AIREY is buried there, and when she died? Any help greatly appreciated. Sharon

They are found in Berks, Lancaster and Phila counties in the 1800s. It sometimes is spelt as Gehringer. Thank you again. You are very kind to share your information with so many people. --- Baltus GERRINGER arrived in Philadelphia on board the Mortonhouse on 24 August 1728. Jacob GERRINGER arrived in Philadelphia on board the Ship Shirley on 5 September 1751. Baltus signed his name by mark X and Jacob's name (and those of some other passengers on the Shirley) were written in by the clerk in the absence of the passengers (the book doesn't say where those passengers were at the time). So I don't know whether Jacob could write his own name or not and I don't have his signature. So there is quite a gap between the arrivals of these two GERRINGERs and I have no way of knowing whether one is related to the other or not. Is the 1800s the earliest you find your GERRINGERs in any records? I see some GERINGER/GERRINGERs in Berks County as early as the 1761. There is a Sabastian and a George GERINGER/GERRINGER having children baptized--Sebastian at Zion Lutheran in Greenwich Twp. and George at St. Paul's Reformed and Lutheran Church Amity Twp. There is also a Nicolaus and wife having children baptzed in the 1760s and 70s at Zion Lutheran. Nicolaus is most likely the Nicolaus GERRINGER I see on the ship lists arriving on the Halifax in 1754. In Lancaster County there are a David and a Henry GERINGER/GOERINGER having children baptized in 1760, 1763, and 1769 at First Reformed Church Lancaster. Joan

There are: Baltus, Bastian/Bestian, Jacob, Nicklas/Nicolas and Thomas. If any of those given names are of interest to you let me know and I'll find the complete ship and date info for them. Baltus was the earliest to arrive (1728) and is shown on one list as Gering and another as Gerringer, years later Thomas, and later Jacob and finally Bastian and Nicklas were the last by this name in the book.
