    1. Philadelphia ED? for 1870?
    2. l faris
    3. Hello, I have tried and tried to find my great great grandfather in the 1870 and 1910 census. The name is Michael Hannigan. I have found him in the 1860 census listed as Harrigan. I also found him in 1880 and 1900 but not in 1910. Perhaps someone can help by telling me the ED for his address in 1870 - it was 500 S 27th. By 1910 he was living at 2534 Ellsworth St. That ED? I appreciate any assistance. Lorraine Maryland --------------------------------- New Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Call regular phones from your PC for low, low rates.

    1. THANK YOU to all who helped with my Mary Sekel/Holy Cross question -- update with names Miller, Mellor, Finnigan, Anderson
    2. Laurie
    3. Thank you to all who responded with helpful information--there were many who replied off list, and I was in the process of sending individual thank you when the responses kept on coming. So a big thank you to all!! Holy Cross was very helpful. In response to the many who said "call first", I did so, and I was able to arrange time to head out there today. If you go to Holy Cross, there is a FHC only 8 miles away with a permanent collection of Philadelphia films; it's the Valley Forge FHC. Also, I was told that only 2 lookups are done per person per visit, so though I had 3, I got 2 -- a headsup for anyone making the trip. I was given a map, it was highlighted for me, and when I was seen wandering and looking lost (I still ended up walking the wrong part!), I was given help by one of the many friendly people who work there. Sadly, my family has no markers, but I did get a printout that includes the following names in the event anyone is connected: Francis Miller died 10/15/1918, Marie L. Mellor died 06/15/1914, Dominick Finnigan died 10/25/1924, Marie Finnigan died 05/26/1902, Margaret Anderson died 10/26/1907, Mary J. Finnegan died 10/09/1902, Peter J. Finnegan (owner) died 07/09/1943, and Mary Sekel died 12/13/1910. I have been able now to confirm Mary's birth: she was born as Mary FINNEGAN in June 1871 to Jeremiah FINNEGAN and his wife Emily. Jeremiah was a lithographer and born in NY; Emily was a homemaker and born in Washington DC.

    1. Philly death, buried in Holy Cross Cemetery
    2. Laurie: I have been to Holy Cross. It is a very big cemetery and seems to have many Italian graves. I was looking for a gravestone to photograph for RAOGK and I simply went to the office and they gave me all the directions. Unfortunately, there was no gravestone to photograph! The staff was most cordial (as are all of the cemetery staffs I have contacted). One of them was having a birthday and they offered me a piece of cake! Craig TenBroeck

A look at a map shows this cemetery in Yeadon, just outside the city. Has anyone visited there? It looks huge, so what is the best way to plan a visit there? Also, now that I know the date of death, am I correct in understanding that the only way to get the death certificate is to send $9 with the details to the archives? This is the first record of any type that I'm ordering on my Philly family, so advice is appreciated. Thank you! Laurie
