    3. Link, I may be interested in what you find. My Great Grandparents lived in Philly on the 1890 city directory I found them at 733 N 7th St. His Pipe & Tobacco Shop was 16 N. 6th. This sounds like it may have been near by. I at first thought German...Luthern but recently found out that their spelling of the name was porbalby Dutch German...So maybe in the Reformed church . Please let me know what you find. Thank you. 2. This thread started off related to genealogical research but somewhere along the line has turned into reminiscing about things that are getting pretty far afield from genealogy. I know all of us with memories of the Philadelphia area years ago like to chat about these things, and I don't want to stifle that chatting--I'd just like to remind everyone that we have a sister list devoted exclusively to that purpose -- a list for chatting about Philadelphia topics that are not directly linked to genealogy. We tend to forget this and tend to forget that some on the PAPHILAD list would prefer to keep list discussion to genealogy-only. Just a reminder that chatting about things that might be off-topic on this list is always welcome at: PHILLY-TALK-L@rootsweb.com . Thanks! Joan, admin

    3. Wow, George Washington Cake. That was a real favorite of my childhood. Every summer we visited my grandmother, Camilla Happold, in South Philly. She lived next door to and worked at Kessler's Bakery. The Kessler's were German and they had some of the best food. George Washington cake was a favorite of mine along with the cheese cake, little lemon pies and snow flake rolls. I was born there but raised in Florida. Chris MAY YOU ALWAYS WALK WITH ANGELS

That Schillings was in Cheltenham, down the road from the Fox Chase area. The street names I don't know, but it was as I recall a one story addition(?) to the normal stone home there. It was on a residential corner but by maybe 1985 on a trip back home the building was vacant. What an era ended. Everybody in our family and neighborhood knew of the place. I would bet the building with its large glass window(s) is still there. Tom Clarke ocl-tom@ix.netcom.com 5-10-06

    3. Thanks so much, Bob. That's a more obvious candidate. I can see how those two small e's could be mis-read as an i and c, and the Germantown location makes more sense. Once again, I'm very grateful for all the help I get from this list!
