Hi Everyone, I am asking this for a friend of mine. She was going through her mother's things and found an old cemetery deed to a cemetery on Turner's Lane in the 1840's. Unfortunately, she forgot to give me the name of the cemetery. She said she couldn't find a Turner's Lane anywhere in Philly today and was wondering if I could find out where it might have been located. Thanks for any help. Susan
Cookie, Thank you so very much for taking the time to send me all this information. I will keep your email for future use. I knew from reading former emails that there was a library in Phila. that did this but could not for the life of me remember which one. I need to find an obituary for the 12 Feb 1904. I have tried the newspapers online but cannot find 1904. Could someone please advise me how to do this? Janet
I just followed your directions and found it with out any problems. I didn't know you could do that. However I am confused. I also typed in 4181 Salem St. and got a location on it. It comes up but a few blocks away but in the same neighborhood. Did they move the numbers since 1910.....is that the reason for the Trenten Ave address ?? Would SKS please do a look-up for me in the Philadelphia City Directories? But first I must ask a question which will determine whether the look-up is even possible: When did the city suburb of Lower Dublin Township first appear in the city directories.? Would it have appeared before 1836? The city and county were consolidated in 1854, but I believe the directories started adding some of the suburbs before 1854. I am most interested in finding a listing for George VANDEGRIFT (or VANDERGRIFT) living in Lower Dublin Twp, Philadelphia County. Unfortunately, George died in 1835. Additionally, I'm interested in listings for Benjamin VANDEGRIFT in Oxford Twp. and Jacob VANDEGRIFT of Frankford during that same period. Benjamin died in 1844. I don't know when Jacob died. Sincere thanks to anyone who can provide any information on these names. Howard Howard Speck howards@infionline.net EarthLink Revolves Around You. Laura, I beleive you have the wrong date of death. In 1920 I find Joseph Townsend living in Philadelphia with his wife Mary E. Also in the house is an Edward and May Hillis with their 3 daughters, Emma E., Mildred M. and Marion E. In 1910 I found this same family: Joseph Townsend 53 W England Philadelphia, Philadelphia Wife Mary Emma 52 Pennsylvania Daughter May Hilles 31 Pennsylvania Son-in-law Edward 34 Pennsylvania Granddaughter Emma Edna 09 Pennsylvania Granddaughter Mildred May 07 Pennsylvania Granddaughter Marion Ethel 01 Pennsylvania In 1930 Emma is a Widow living with her daughter, May Hiller, son in law Edward and two grandchildren Marion and Mildren Also living with them is an Aunt Eva Ashton (District 877 - Sheet 6A). They are at 4416 Wingahocken St. I don't think there were two wives. Emma was Mary Emma. She shows up in one census as Mary and another as Emma. So I think your Joseph (as long as I found the right Joseph) died before 1932. Hope this helps Regina >From: "Ann Brown" <cookiebrown11@gmail.com> >Reply-To: PAPHILAD-L@rootsweb.com >To: PAPHILAD-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [PAPHL] Townsend, Northwood Cemetery >Date: Sun, 11 Jun 2006 15:31:43 -0400 > >Laura, > >I agree with the person who told you to call Northwood cemetery. She lost - all - her data due to a virus from aol. She is on a pc. I am on a Mac. Is there a way to make out which kind of file it is? Paul- When you receive a genealogy file from another person it is usually in the GEDCOM format (which is a plain text format). The mistake most people make is trying to OPEN the file rather than IMPORTING the file into your genealogy program and opening it there. However, a GEDCOM file should have the .ged extention. In any case you can try to change the file name to add the .ged extention and if the file actually IS a GEDCOM format file you should be able to open your genealogy program and locate the file and open it within your genealogy program. If you can't--then you know it is a file format you cannot handle. If you wish additional information on this topic you might turn to one of the software help lists at RootsWeb--check the list index pages under OTHER to find them: http://lists.rootsweb.com . As for the person telling you they got a "virus from AOL" that would be just about impossible in that AOL scans all incoming and outgoing mail/attachments for viruses. The person may have gotten a virus but it wasn't from AOL. Joan
Paul: If it is on your desktop, select it and hold down Command and the letter "i." That should open up an information panel and indicate what program it will "open with". You can change this if you wish. If you want to, send it to me at < craigten@aol.com> and I will see what I can do. Craig TenBroeck I > >
Hello, Would anyone have any information on the DILL & COLLINS PAPER MILL of Philadelphia and/or The DUFUR HOSPITAL or direct me to where I might find some. Thank you. Pat
Do you know? 1) Joseph's middle initial 2) Did Joseph have a second wife? If so, what was her name? 3) Do you know where Joseph was born? 4) What was Joseph's occupation? I am trying to see if I can locate Joseph in the 1930 census. Jane
