    3. Hi: If someone has access, would appreciate a copy of Philadelphia passenger listing for subject. Reference is from passenger index card. Especially interested in where he was from (last residence). Apparently he was the b-i-l of ancestral relative, David GLICKSMAN of Philly (spelled "GLOCKSMAN" on index. Thanks, Michael McTeer, Crowley, Texas

    1. [PAPhl] TOWNSEND - BURR Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of 12 old photographs belonging to the TOWNSEND and POWNALL Family of Pennsylvania. The group includes 6 photographs of Howard from teens to 60's taken in and around Lancaster, PA along with 3 photographs of Evanna POWNALL TOWNSEND taken from about age 6 into her 40's, one photograph taken in Atlantic City, NJ. An additional 3 photographs are of Evanna POWNALL with her daughter Alta TOWNSEND BURR STOLZE, Granddaughter Helen BURR PECK, and Great Granddaughter Alta PECK; Evanna TOWNSEND, Neenie QUICK, and an unidentified woman; and the last of Evanna TOWNSEND, Lindner BONGAARDT, Elsie BONGAARDT, and Alta TOWNSEND. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Howard L. TOWNSEND was b. 10 Nov 1851 in Sadsbury Township, Lancaster Co., PA to parents Jacob R. TOWNSEND (1820-1891) and Susan M. HOMSHER (1830-1902). Howard was one of 6 children born to this couple including, Howard L.; Ellwood Martin; Ashmore or Ashmer H.; Elizabeth Paxon or Patterson or Paxson; Ella V.; and Maris or Morris S. TOWNSEND, all born between 1851 and 1870. Howard married Evanna POWNALL (1852-1934) and they had 3 children who are all detailed below. Howard died 3 Sept 1932 in Lancaster Co., PA and is buried in the Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery in Gap, PA. Evanna POWNALL was b. 22 Apr 1852 in Christiana, PA to parents Ambrose POWNALL (1825-1919) and Joanna F. DENNEY or DENNY (1829-1904). Evanna had a sister Edith Denney POWNALL (1866-1950). Evanna married Howard L. TOWNSEND and together they had 5 children including, Elsie Pownall; Eugene Leeray or Leeroy; Alta Frances; Harold Lester; and Herbert R. TOWNSEND; all born between 1876 and 1897. Evanna died 14 Oct 1934 and is buried in the Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery in Gap, PA. Helen BURR was born 9 Oct 1910 in Philadelphia, PA to parents Albert BURR and Alta F. TOWNSEND. Helen married James A. PECK and she died 9 Jul 2000 in State College, PA and is buried in the Glen Run Cemetery in Atglen, PA. Helen had one daughter, Alta L. PECK PERKS who was living in State College, PA when her mother died in 2000. I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful group of family photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    2. Debbie
    3. Hi Pat! Just last week I ordered a naturalization record from the national archives. It cost $10, and came quickly -- in a matter of days! The fact that you have the date and location makes it easy! I used an online tool to place the order; mine was held by the NARA in Boston. I was able to find an index record for our ancestor on Ancestry, which had much of the information I needed to submit the request. I looked at Ancestry and Fold3 and saw A LOT of John Higgins, but none naturalized in Philly in 1890. So, you might need to do a bit more homework before you have everything that you need to make the online request. There should be information on the NARA website about how to do that. Here's a link to the NARA in Philadelphia: https://www.archives.gov/philadelphia This shows their holdings for naturalization records, which looks like it covers the time period you're searching: https://www.archives.gov/philadelphia/family-history#Naturalization And more details about naturalizations: https://www.archives.gov/research/naturalization Debbie Date: Sat, 9 Mar 2019 12:05:04 +0000 From: Pat Berry <[email protected]> Subject: [PAPhl] NATURALIZATION PAPERS-JOHN HIGGINS-1890 To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected] rd11.prod.outlook.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hello I am looking for the Naturalization Papers for JOHN HIGGINS born 1858 in County Mayo, Ireland. I have his application for a USA Passport which was issued on 8 December 1890 in Philadelphia. This document says that John Higgins was naturalized in Philadelphia on 9 January 1890. I have his emigration details. He emigrated to USA in 1881 arriving at New York on the SS Waesland on 13 October 1881. He was living at 1622 Thompson Street, Philadelphia when he applied for USA Passport but wanted the Passport to be sent to 1851 Lambert Street, Philadelphia. I have been trying to find him on a Census with no luck. He was married but I don't know his wife's name or when or where they got married. All I know is that he died together with his wife at home at 1046, Jefferson Street, Rahway, New Jersey on 24 February 1926. They were buried in Calvary, New York. I am hoping that the Naturalization Papers will give me more information. I can't find this on Ancestry. Thanks Regards Pat Berry

    3. Hi Pat, I took a look at the Phila. City Directories. There is a John Higgins, Laborer, living at 1855 Lambert St. in 1890. I don't see him there in 1891 or 1892. Based on the other information that you were able to give us, I found some more information but not the Naturalization papers. I did find a newspaper article stating that their daughter was Mrs. Arthur Marquet of Bergenfield, NJ. 2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" three photographs belonging to the PERKS Family of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The first is a photograph of George A. PERKS who was the son of Richard & Eliza PERKS and the half-brother of William Townsend PERKS Sr. The photograph was taken at the P. Edward D. Chillman & Co. Studio in Philadelphia, PA sometime in the 1880's. The second photograph is one of William PERKS Sr. with his wife Mary PERKS and their son William T. PERKS Jr. which was taken at their summer home in Wildwood, NJ. William PERKS Jr. is a toddler at the time the photograph was taken. There are a number of unidentified people in the photograph as well. This photograph is of I believe William Jr. and was probably taken in the early 1900's with Bill appearing to be in his 30's at the time the photograph was taken. George's father remarried a third time after the death of his second wife to Leonettie ELMER (1847-1897) but didn't have additional children. George married Iola H. ISZARD (1855-1911) and together they had a daughter, Emma Sommers PERKS (1877-1877). George died 1 Apr 1888 in Camden, NJ. William Townsend PERKS Sr. was b. 19 May 1873 in Camden, NJ to parents Richard PERKS and Annie MCGRATH and died 20 Mar 1953 in Havertown, PA and is buried in the Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken, NJ. Son William Jr. married Clara May GIPE (1909-1999) in 1935 and he died 19 Jul 1992 in Fort Lauderdale, FL and is buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in York, PA.
