    2. Barbara McCormick
    3. Here's another story: "Evansville Courier & Press" Evansville, IN 21 Dec 1924 Mother Kills Lover of Her Daughter Philadelphia, Pa., Dec. 20 - Mrs. Sarah Stead's love for her daughter placed her behind bars here tonight, charged with manslaugher. She objected to the attentions of Harry Buskey, 35, to her young daughter, May. Buskey persisted. When he called tonight Mrs Stead rufused him admission. He struck her in the face, according to the story obtained by the police, and she grabbed a knife and stabbed him through the heart. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynne" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2014 8:49 PM Subject: [PAPhl] Harry BUSKEY murdered Dec. 1924 by Sarah STEAD > > Hello all > > My Lancashire family liked to flit back and forth from England to the US, > resulting in a few children being born in the Philadelphia area and others > born in England. 2. Lynne
    3. Hello all My Lancashire family liked to flit back and forth from England to the US, resulting in a few children being born in the Philadelphia area and others born in England. Most of my research has centered on the English, but an interesting death certificate has brought me to Philadelphia research. Harry BUSKEY (BUSKY), b. 4 Nov. 1890 Conshohocken, PA, married Hannah STEAD in 1924. It appears he had previously married Margaret E Wallace July 1912 in Delaware. On 20 December 1924, Harry BUSKEY died on the way to Episcopal Hospital, Philadelphia, as the result of "stab wounds of chest the hands of Sara STEAD." The death certificate is stamped "homicide" and signed by Robert J. Patton, coroner. A search of Ancestry has not revealed further information about Harry's death nor about the STEAD family. Of course, that doesn't mean the information isn't there, just that I'm no good at finding it. I'd be very interested to find any mention of the murder in newspaper articles, any information about the STEAD family, and what happened to Sarah STEAD (was Sarah actually Hannah?), and have no idea where to look. I'd be very grateful if someone would point me in the right direction. If this is too vague, please let me know what other information I should provide. Thanks in advance. Lynne

    3. This is a follow up to my previous request for information about marriage licences which you will see below. I have now found what appears to be the source of archived marriage records for Philadelphia at: http://secureprod.phila.gov/wills/marriagerecordinfo.aspx Before I send my request for a copy of the information they hold together with $35 I am hoping that that someone can give me some advice about this: Have I got the right website? Does anyone have any experience of making applications to City Hall for marriage records? Will the information they provide include a copy the application and of the license? Will either of these records show more than is given on the church register of names, addresses and date of marriage? In particular will the application and/or license show the status of the couple - spinster/bachelor, widow/widower, divorced and details of previous marriage. Thank you David Railton Cheshire, England From: David Railton [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 12 March 2014 16:24 To: [email protected] com ([email protected]) Subject: Marriage record - Phiadelphia - 1887 I have a copy of a church record of a marriage in Philadelphia in 1887. Can anyone please tell me what the procedure was for the documentation of a marriage at that time? Would a license need to be taken out before the marriage? If so how would it be possible for me to obtain a copy of the licence and from where? Thank you. David Railton Cheshire, England

You can then download or print it for your files. At this time period, you will get name, age, occupation, address of bride and groom--but no info on parents unless one or both were minors and there's a parental consent form attached. 3. David, I have ancestors that married in 1888. Their marriage application lists where the husband and wife were born, dates of birth, current residences, occupations, whether they are related by blood or marriage, and if either one was married before. If they were married before, then they were to give a reason as to why the former marriage was dissolved. 3. I have a copy of a church record of a marriage in Philadelphia in 1887. Can anyone please tell me what the procedure was for the documentation of a marriage at that time? Would a license need to be taken out before the marriage? If so how would it be possible for me to obtain a copy of the licence and from where? Thank you. David Railton Cheshire, England

    3. Claire, I'm not certain I understand…are you saying that you can see the actual marriage document or just the actual index record. If you mean you can obtain the marriage license document by clicking on something, can you tell us what that is. I thought once you obtained the marriage license number you have to order the record from City Hall or go to the archives to view the records. What am I missing? 3. David, I know what you are asking. I don't know about Phila. PA but I know in Massachusetts, I asked for a copy of the papers my grandparents actually filled out to receive the license/certificate and I paid for and received a copy of them and it did give me a little more info than on the marriage license/certificate had on them.
