GenealogyBank.com and fold3.com but a lot depends on when and where you are doing most of your research Holly -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Barbara McCormick via Sent: Friday, September 05, 2014 11:12 AM To: P Valverde; [email protected] Subject: Re: [PAPhl] paid research sites Patti..... One of my research associates subscribes to Newspapers.com (this is paid subscription). We have some good results from there for articles from certain Philadelphia papers, for instance, such as death-funeral announcements and so forth; also articles about accidents or items that came up in court. Even without the paid subscription here, we can often find the same newspapers in google search, and they usually do include some OCR of the text. Look out if trying to use the OCR text --some OCR is not good (garbled; bad characters, etc), and from other articles, the text might contain lines from various artlcles that had been in colums, so it's possible that text from several articles seems to be together when it really isn't. So the subscription would be useful. Hi, Other than ancestry, what are good reliable paid sites to invest my money for research? I am interested in newspapers as well for all states. Thank you. Patti
I am looking for the names of the wife and children of Charles Stewart who was born about 1754 and died 27 October 1841 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA and is buried in New Market Street Baptist Church Burial Ground. It would be great to know if there is a will, probate and/or other record, even land record, that might have their names. Thanks for any help you can be. Lee Anne
St. Francis Xavier, founded 1839 is still open. Location is 24th and Green Sts. Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, founded 1848. Location is 18th St. and the Benjamin Franklin Pkwy. Another possibility would be Assumption B.V.M. founded 1845, now closed. Spiritual records are held at St. John the Evangelist. Do you have a name and an address? What Catholic church would have served Spring Garden about 1860? Thanks :) Clare
There isn't a best one in general. It depends on where your research is. For Philadelphia, hands down, GenealogyBank.com is the one to get. If that's not your area, then be sure to read through the list of papers AND DATES that they have before deciding. Clare
I would agree with this. Some library cards offer free access to this one. It's worth looking into. -------------------------------------------- On Thu, 8/21/14, Clare via <[email protected]> wrote: There isn't a best one in general. It depends on where your research is. I have used a number of different sites, none recently though. One thing to check is your library. I've not yet learned of a library that does not offer at least one of the fee-based sites used for research. I have 3 different library cards, each one giving me access to different things. -------------------------------------------- On Thu, 8/21/14, P Valverde via <[email protected]> wrote: What is the best newspaper(s) membership to join for access to many states?

Hi Everyone I'm doing research into the above couple who I think (hope) are the parents of Christian ROSE who was born 6-2-1784 and baptised 25-6-1785 Herold's Reformed Church (Lutheran?) in Philadelphia died 1827 or 1828 (Hempfield) Westmoreland PA. I would like to find further information if possible on Frederick and wife Anna father of Christian snr b 6-2-1784. I have checked the 1790 Census for Southwark in Philadelphia and found Frederick Rose a Jonathon Rose and a Matthias Rose. We are trying to track the families movements west as some of the Rose family ended up in Westmoreland PA. Can anyone please tell me how I can find more information on Frederick from probate, immigration, marriage, death burial records or anything else that will link him up to Christian ROSE. Kindest regards Dianna from Oz

Found Harris' death cert at Ancestry. Father's name is "Herman" and mother's name is "not known." Also found a Herman Flomenhoft who died in 1933 at age 48. If this could be Harris' brother, the parents' names are Harris Flomenhoft and Sarah (no last name given) I will send you these docs privately.
