Lucknow is a city in India located in the modern state of Uttar Pradesh (United Provinces under the British) in the Indo-Gangetic plain that had a very famous siege of the East India Company army by rebels during the Great Mutiny of 1857. It also was a major railway junction later in the 19th century.
