    3. I just joined, and I quickly confess that I really don't understand "RootsWeb." But I hope to gain understanding as I proceed. My maternal GF, Hayes H. COX is something of a mystery. His parents, said to be John and Matilda (REED) died when he was relatively young. So not a lot of history has been handed down. Family lore has it that Hayes was born in/around Duncannon, 2 Dec. 1870 or 1872. Hayes had at least one elder sister, Laura. I've found a John/Matilda REED in 1850 Armagh Tnship., Mifflin County Census, (p. 172). Census shows no children, and Matilda is 35, too old to have had Hayes when she was 57/59 years old. (I realize that enumerators made errors, but that's all Ihave to go on right now.) Hayes ended up in Kansas as a young man, where I've picked him up. Census shows his parents and he were all born in Pa. But his Pennsylvania time is a real mystery. If anyone reading this has any suggestions or knows anything about COX/REED, I'd be most grateful to know. I'm 61, and live in Chicago. I'm very much of a neophyte in genealogy. I'd LOVE to solve the mystery of my grandfather's parents, etc., and would appreciate any help anyonel could provide. Yours truly, David Salyers [email protected]
