Surnames: Rice, Koser Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/odB.2ACI/442 Message Board Post: Samuel M. Rice, the Democratic candidate for Director of the Poor, was born in Tyrone Township, near Landisburg, in 1846. He is a son of the late Jeremiah and Catharine (Koser) Rice, and is a worthy member of one of the oldest and most respected families in the county. Mr. Rice was reared on his father's farm, but when a young man learned the stone mason trade, in which occupation he is still engaged. He is a highly reputable, honorable, honest man, a member and trustee of the Reformed church of Landisburg. He has served his township several times as supervisor and in view of the fact that Tyrone is one of the strongest Republican districts in the county his election to an office in that township speaks well for his character and fitness an the high regard in which he is held by those who know him best. Mr. Rice is a strictly temperate and thoroughly honest and conscientious man, and if elected Director of the Poor House will see that proper economy is used in the manage! ment of the Poor House and that not one cent of the taxpayers' money is wasted. He is a highly intelligent man, of firm character and as Director of the Poor could not be made a tool of by anybody. The taxpayers of the county will make no mistake in electing him. handwritten: Sept. 1907 The above information was generously submitted by Nikki Perry; it was obtained from the Perry Historians Library; newspaper clippings collection/family files.
