My immigrant Schneider was Georg Schneider (b. 7/19/1784, Beddlehausen, Siegen-Wittgenstein; d. before 1832, Duncannon). His wife was Anna Augusta Freytag (b. 11/11/1767, Elsoff, Siegen-Wittgenstein) They came to Perry Co. around 1816 with three sons: Georg Jr, Jacob, and my ancestor John Tanner Snyder. Later a daughter Christianne came with her husband, Georg Gelbach -- they are now Gelbaughs and Gilbaughs in Perry Co. Now, I know that Schneiders are common as dirt in Germany, but apparently he came at the urging of his younger brother, John K. Snyder, founder of what is now Snyder United Methodist Church -- of course at that time he was Evangelical United Brethern. I don't know one way or another if Georg and Johannes K. had other brothers, but from the size of families they had then (often with many of the sons named Johann, but called by their second name) it seems possible that there may have been more. So, to make a long story short -- "TOO LATE!" I hear you say -- do you know whether or not these Schneiders came from Siegen-Wittgenstein? I should mention that Siegen-Wittgenstein was assigned to Prussia after the Napoleonic Wars and many residents left then, when most of the remaining feudal laws were eliminated. Thanks! Bill Snyder
